Took a quick trip up to Anchorage Alaska to see my husband and friends, and managed to pick up a few caribou and moose antler pieces for some new products!

The skinny oblong caribou antler is my favorite so far! 😍They’ll make some pretty dangly earrings as you can see in the second picture!

The mountains (everything really) are so pretty up there, especially this year as we never really had any snow!

The last two pictures are our favorite paintings of which are located in Jewel Lake Kaladi’s Coffee shop in Anchorage. She is a fabulous painter who is also from Northport. If you are ever in Anchorage go check out her art, it’s beautiful!

A little peek into the workshop lately…

So many new ideas taking shape. Time spent hiking and foraging has led to a growing pile of materials waiting to be turned into something special.

Now the real challenge is finding the time to bring them all to life.

This “winter” has definitely felt different. With hardly any snow and February feeling more like the end of March, I’ve found myself daydreaming about seeds and potting soil, hiking trails, wildflowers… and of course just being outside in the warm sun.

While I have no problem heading out on adventures by myself, I always enjoy it more when I can share the day with my husband and daughter. Lately, my focus has been replenishing my birch bark supply, especially gathering small tubes that are perfect for toothpick holders, pen containers, and other little unique pieces.

Of course, it’s always a little extra special when we stumble across antler sheds along the way. Those finds often make their way into my work too, becoming part of the natural materials I love to create with.

Truthfully, I rarely need an excuse to get out into the woods. It’s one of my favorite places to be. Every time I’m out there, I’m reminded of the incredible abundance of life around us and the quiet miracle of how this planet continues to grow and provide for us. It’s pretty amazing. 🌲

The first day of spring delivered our first calf of the season! And how cute is the little lamb with his fuzzy chops!? So far we’ve only had one set of twins lambs born and one calf with many more to go!

This is always a favorite time of year on the farm with all the cuteness overload!

It takes a village.... the family that keeps Sandy Springs Homestead going one day at a time. We each play a separate role that in the end comes together and allows the whole operation to continue on.

Without each other we would have very little and this story would be a sad lonely one with no purpose as we do this for our families, for our children's future.

When the world is fraught with chaos and everything changes, it is important to look at what matters most, readjust your sails and keep going. That's exactly what we're planning to do this year to make it the best one yet.

The road home.

The road home is not always a straight one, it’s fraught at times with potholes, detours and unexpected delays, but the destination makes the trip worthwhile.

Passing on our knowledge and skills goes beyond the classroom and four structured walls.

It is up to us as parents, aunts, uncles, siblings and community members to continue lighting the spark of creativity, self sufficiency and purposeful action in the next generation.

This year has brought many different challenges to our family, a change in our dynamics and how we go about things.

It was tough and heartbreaking at times but we came out the other side knowing who we could depend on and trust.

Such strife has a way of revealing just how blessed and supported you truly are and that is what we are focusing on this thanksgiving day, because we can’t tell you enough how much your support means to us!

This fall we had an abundance of wild mushrooms, they were popping up everywhere!…. Even high up in the trees!

Have you ever wondered how those mushrooms end up in the most random places, I mean, they hug the ground dwelling in leaves and dirt, how do they even end up high in a tree branch in late fall?

Crafty squirrels and chipmunks stash them there to eat as them food becomes scarce over the winter.

Mushrooms are a nutrient-rich option that provides essential vitamins, fiber, protein, and complex sugars that are vital to their little bodies through the winter months.

By stashing them in tree branches they maximize airflow and allow the mushrooms to slowly dehydrate instead of rotting away on the ground. How crafty of them right!
