WHAT’S GOING ON AT THE FARM STORE THIS WEEK?

In case you haven’t heard, we have a retail store and resturant right here on the farm!

Stop by for delicious meals made with meat raised and harvested right here at Home Place Pastures, then check out the butcher case to take home fresh cuts for your own kitchen.

This week’s burger special is the Marshanator — our farm-fresh take on a Big Mac, stacked with Marsh sauce, pickles, lettuce, bacon, and onions.

Quick video explaining our seasonal shift with our pigs from pasture to woods.

In this patch of hardwoods, they have endless enrichment and shade, and help us clear underbrush and invasive privet. They also occasionally find a perfect wallow. We have to rotate them regularly because their rubbing and scratching can kill the trees overtime. If managed properly they open up the forest beautifully.

We typically have around 400 hogs on the Home Place at any given time, in discrete litter groups of 80 to 100 head. Pigs are charismatic and eccentric- filled with personality and intelligence. We are proud to provide them this way of life, instead of one on concrete behind bars, preemptively medicated under the relentless beaming lights of confinement barns. They seem so at home outdoors just being pigs and ideally, unbeknownst to them, serving an important role in our farm ecosystem and management goals.

These guys will hang out in various small wooded paddocks behind polyline for the next 4 to 5 months.
They are just behind our new farm venue (call the store for rates and availability!) and there’s another handsome group of hoglets behind the farm store just waiting for you to come say hi!

We are grateful to enjoy some non work related activities on the farm today and reflect on our immense gratitude for those who died in service to our country, and their families.
