The Freezer Sale this past Saturday doubled our previous attendance and sales record. When the line stretched all the way around the building into the north parking lot of our USDA facility, there was a moment where our excitement could have tipped to panic. Fortunately, our team stayed focused and we quickly worked people through the sale to minimize line time.
Thank you to our customers who patiently waited in line for over an hour on a hot day, and for being so supportive and kind to us when you made it in. We never feel closer to our mission and to our customers than we get to meet you in person, assist you, and directly connect you with our products, right here on the farm where they are produced. All the pleasant conversations, water bottle deliveries, cooking tips, carrying product out to cars- there was a collaborative, community feel to the day that made it so special for us.
This event represents something deeper than transactions. It’s an innovative win-win at the local level within a consolidated food system that makes small-scale local meat production increasingly challenging.
Moving processing back to the farm, developing a viable local supply chain, building production capacity, creating demand, solving for distribution, and then perfectly aligning these complex components each week- let’s just say that at any given time one component doesn’t stay in tune. But, this past Saturday- the engine was truly firing on all cylinders.
To have the kind of turn out and support we received Saturday filled our tanks to keep innovating, solving problems, and building a viable and vital local food system in the Midsouth for the Home Place here in Como, MS. The mission we post around the farm and our processing facility is simple: “we make good food for our community.” Thank you for showing us that the community, in turn, is behind us!
