History of Brigham Farm....
John Brigham, a wheelwright who made wooden wagon wheels, purchased the farm on Fitchburg Turnpike in the 1820s. The farm was a typical New England subsistence farm for several generations, with a few horses, cows, pigs, and chickens, raising food for home consumption and selling any surplus. Early in the 1900s Harry Brigham became a market gardener growing rhubarb and other crops for sale at retail and to the Boston wholesale market. His son George Brigham grew crops for the Boston market and for other local farm stands, also continuing retail sales at our own stand. After the second world war, George specialized in sweet corn, leasing a number of parcels of farm land, most of which are now occupied by houses, schools, and office buildings. The sixth generation, Jane Brigham Bailey and Charles (Chip) Poutasse, operate the farm and farm stand today, with a home farm of five acres and about 12 acres of rented land. Brigham Farm specializes in sweet corn and offers an array of other farm-grown produce, fruit, and flowers for sale at its stand. A companion business, Brigham Greenhouses, sells vegetable and flower seedlings at the start of the growing season, and hardy mums in the fall.
