☀️Let’s talk about heat stroke☀️It is HOT!☀️

With temperatures soaring, your pets need to be monitored closely. As humans we are able to recognize when we are hot and stop when we don’t feel well.

🐾Dogs have no idea that they’re overheating and will run, play, chase, work outside with you until they collapse. 🌡️

🐾Allow playtime for 10-15 mins max
🐾Avoid the 12-5pm time frame for activity
🐾Do NOT encourage heavy activity like fetch, frisbee, running with you. (Save these activities for morning, sun down, or another day)
🐾Provide lots of cool water or pools
🐾Bring them inside frequently
🐾Snub nose or short snout breeds especially should NOT be allowed activity in this heat AT ALL. This includes: Boxers, all Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, Pugs, Shih Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, etc.

💔Do NOT assume that because your dog has been fine before they will always be okay. They may have been dangerously close to heat stroke in the past and managed to cool down. We see this scenario OFTEN. 💔

If you see your dog panting heavily and acting abnormally you should suspect heat stroke:
🌡️Bring your dog inside
🌡️Check their re**al temp with an oral thermometer (sacrifice your thermometer to the cause!)
🌡️Place a fan on them for evaporative cooling
🌡️Apply cold water or rubbing alcohol to the foot pads
🌡️Provide small amounts of cool (NOT ice cold) water to drink
🌡️Allow them to rest and pant off their heat
🌡️Monitor and record their re**al temp every 15 mins. It should drop gradually.
🌡️CALL your veterinarian to let them know what happened, and for advice
