When do the cows get out? Around 10:30 pm and your alarm is set for 3:25am usually.
Once I get the call, I throw back the blankets, collect the electric fence checker, halters and macaroni salad. That was for me.
7 minute drive to get to the leased pasture, only to walk around in their last seen location for a few minutes and find nothing. The troublemakers were the 2 adolescents I moved there this morning. They were mooing but we couldn’t tell where it was coming from… it kind of sounded like it was the direction of their pasture. The fog was so thick, our lights just reflected back to us. We couldn’t see anything.
A walk towards the pasture and sure enough, they had gone back through the fence and put themselves away without needing to get me up! Good calves. Even though I’m still up.
They were upset they didn’t get their evening milk and their entire routine was new! They were mooing and wandering around in the dark, causing a ruckus with the other cows in their pasture. So, I sat with them by the hay while they calmed down and I could finally sneak away without them noticing.
Looks like 3 hours and 25 minutes will have to be enough sleep.
Why do I love cows so much?! 🫠
