Heard you shouldn’t cook acidic foods in cast iron? You’re not alone. It’s one of those cast iron rules that gets passed around all the time.

But tomato sauce, shakshuka, and other acidic dishes can absolutely have a place in your skillet.

If your skillet is well seasoned, there’s no need to shy away from them. Just avoid letting highly acidic foods simmer for hours, especially in a newly seasoned pan.

At the end of the day, your cast iron is meant to be used. So make the tomato sauce. Make the shakshuka. Make the meal your family loves.

And don’t let the myths keep your skillet sitting on the shelf.
