The team has been killing it as we transition from growing and harvesting all winter in to spring without having gaps in production. These 3 beds of winter spinach served us well. They survived both of the snow storms, multiple nights below 10 degrees with wind and also were covered by snow and ice for 3-4 weeks. We couldn’t believe the regrowth and how healthy it all was. A month or so after the last bit of the snow melted it was 88 degrees and we had to shade cloth the beds 😂. Since then we’ve had 3 50 degree temp swings and they started to bolt so we harvested what we could, flail mowed them to be soil food, amended via soil tests, sprayed on the secret sauce of microbe food and microbes and planted again! Scallions, Dill,Parsley, Cilantro and arugula. This is a pretty standard procedure for all of our bed prep. So if you’ve wondered what it’s like to go from crop to crop this is it. We do it multiple times a week, all year! Emma Meyer on the BCS 💪.
Open on the farm today from 3-6 and we’ll be at the Hickory Farmers Market and Charlotte Regional Farmers Market Saturday 8-1.
