Pretty much picked out at Moorhead Blueberry Farm but we will be open tomorrow, June 6th at 6am. It’ll be rainy and wet so parking will be limited. We plan to let the blueberries ripen over the week and then open again on Saturday, June 13th.

Thanks to all of the excellent pickers who came out today! We had full buckets all day and we’ll be open until 8:30 tonight. There are two excellent spots but it’s just a light crop this season.

Just a reminder that Moorhead Blueberry farm will open Friday, June 5th from 6am to 8:30pm rain or shine! We will also open on Saturday, June 6th same hours. If we get picked out at any point I’ll post the info so that you won’t waste a trip.

There are excellent Blueberries in three areas, but they are not as plentiful as they are during a normal season. That freeze did some real damage!

It’s rained every day this week and that has ripened the Blueberries and really made the farm come alive. I met this tortoise while I was trimming trees yesterday. Remember to dress accordingly, as the farm will be damp.

Hope to see you and I’ll post updates as we go. Thanks again for being so excellent!

Moorhead Blueberry farm is closed this weekend, Friday May 29th, Saturday 30th and Sunday May 31st. I’ve been trying to get Apple Maps to reflect this for days but we’re closed this weekend regardless. Please don’t believe what Apple Maps says: we are closed.

The blueberries are ripening but even the blue ones are not yet sweet so I want to give them a week in the sun to recover. Yesterday’s rain will certainly help! I don’t want y’all to drive out to the farm if the blueberries aren’t awesome so I’ll let you know when we open again. Hoping to open late next week.

Thank you to everyone who came out on Memorial Day and that kind of traffic situation has never before happened at the farm! Before I decided to open, I reviewed ten years of our journals and we’d never had more than 120 cars at the Memorial Day morning peak. Monday we had about 400 cars at the peak!

In the future, I’m going to post on Facebook and our website as soon as I see a traffic problem developing so you can make an informed decision about how to proceed.

Finally, I just want to thank all of you for your overwhelming support and positivity! The vast majority of you were understanding, patient, and just full of excellent energy! That energy is what keeps me going in the off season through drought, flood and freeze.

I’ll post updates as we navigate this season, and thanks again for being the best customers in the world!

Great news!

Moorhead Blueberry Farm will be open on Memorial Day, May 25th from 6am to 9pm. All of this rain has filled the berries up and ripened them nicely so you can come pick excellent Blueberries for your barbecue.

I thought the Premiers were wiped out by the freeze but there are quite a few and the Climax are coming along nicely.

Hopefully we’ll catch a break on the rain but wear your old shoes or boots in case the field is damp.

If you can’t make it out Monday, we will open again on Saturday, May 30th.

As for the pictures: I caught a rainbow over the field the other day, my friend picked 57 pounds this morning, and yes those are three Blueberries I put on quarters to give to you an idea of their size. You can hardly see the quarters!

Can’t wait to see everyone again this season! It’ll be shorter than usual, but not as bad as I’d feared. There are lots of white berries so we might be doing this for a while.

Glad to finally have good news for you, and thanks as always for being the best pickers in the world!

Hello everyone! Just wanted to give an update about the 2026 season at Moorhead Blueberry Farm. We don’t know yet when we will open but it will be a short season because there was a polar vortex/hard freeze on March 17th that wiped out most of the crop. Hoping to open in early June.

It dropped below freezing March 17th at 1am and stayed that way until about 8am. My lowest reading was 23 degrees with a laser thermometer, but my other weather stations all read 25 to 27 degrees by 6am. This was not a normal frost that does some bits of damage to some blossoms. It was so cold that new leaves on native trees like oak, yaupon, and sweetgum were killed. I’ve never seen such cold in March.

The good news is that some varieties (Climax and powder blue) will have berries, but the Premiers and Tiff Blues will not.

As usual, it’ll be a weird season, and I’ll keep you updated. Thanks as always for being the best pickers in the world! Sorry for the bad news.

I know we’re closed for the 2025 season but I wanted to post this story that Houston Life (channel 2) did about Moorhead’s Blueberry Farm.

Derrick and Tessa and Lenny came out to the farm and they are just such awesome people! They are so nice, fun, curious and smart! Houston Life is on daily at 1pm and it’s a great show. Derrick wrote and edited the video that Lenny shot for the segment, and you’ll see Tessa have a blueberry right off the plant for the first time. Denise and Jen also have an interview!

I’m so pleased with their hard work and how they presented the story of the farm and what we do there. It’s a privilege to do this and to see all of our incredible pickers every year. To those who missed the shortest season since 1986, we hope to see you next year!

Hello everyone, I know we’re closed after a very short season, but Houston Life on Channel 2 NBC will air a segment at 1pm on Wednesday, June 18th (tomorrow) about Moorhead Blueberry Farm!

Derrick and Tessa and Lenny came out to the farm a few weeks ago and we showed them how to pick blueberries and talked about the history of the farm and our awesome pickers. Those three are just the nicest people!

Carl Walker from Brennan’s of Houston will show how he makes some amazing treats with our Blueberries. Carl’s wife Jen from the farm will also be on the show, and she’s my wife Denise’s twin sister.

Finally, on the last day of the 2025 blueberry season it stormed all evening but just before dark it calmed down and we were rewarded with a double rainbow! I’m hoping that was a sign of good things to come.

Just wanted to let y’all know about the Houston Life segment, and thanks as always for being the best customers in the world!

Moorhead Blueberry Farm is closed on Saturday June 14th and Sunday June 15th. We had a good day today then lots of rain this afternoon, and there aren’t any ripe berries left. There was so much rain that this crawfish came over to the shack to say hello.

We won’t be able to open again for the 2025 Blueberry Season so thank you to everyone who came out! This was one of the shortest seasons in the history of the farm but it was awesome to see everyone again.

I plan on doing some posts during the year to give you an idea of what I do here during the offseason. I’m going to start by spending a few weeks down here with my chainsaws and clippers. If I see anything interesting I’ll let you know.

Our pickers are the best, and thanks as always for your support!
