I was 38 when I walked away from my career to start a farm from scratch. 🌾

🐛 From tiny mealworms to a BIG lesson in nature! 🌱🐔

Today at True Southland Farm, our homeschool students got to experience something pretty amazing!

The kids learned about the complete life cycle of mealworms, watching them go through the fascinating stages of metamorphosis — from egg to larva, pupa, and finally, a darkling beetle! 🪲

But the best part? They got to feed some of the mealworms they raised to our chickens! 🐓

This is what hands-on education looks like! ❤️

Real animals. Real science. Real experiences.

We believe some of the best lessons happen outside the classroom, with dirty hands, curious minds, and God’s amazing creation all around us. 🌿

Whole Hog Day is our old-world hog processing experience: break down a whole pasture-raised hog together, learn to cure and preserve it the traditional way, cook over the fire, eat together, and take home about 5 lbs of pork.

Why is this goose so expensive? 🪿✨

Meet our Sebastopol geese, one of the most unusual birds in the world. Named after the Black Sea port of Sevastopol, they arrived in England in 1860 and became a status symbol, given as gifts among royals and wealthy families.

Those famous curls come from a unique gene mutation and once filled luxury pillows and quilts. They’re so loose these geese can barely fly! 🪶

Hens lay only 25–35 eggs a year, which is why this breed is still listed as threatened today.
