Contoocook Creamery at Bohanan Farm a fifth generation NH family dairy producing milk since 1907. Bohanan Farm is home to 115 milk cows who produce 14,000 8 oz.

servings every day. The farm works closely with a nutritionist and veterinarian to formulate a balanced diet for the cows that blends the homegrown grasses and corn with other nutrients and grains to support the cows' health and production. It takes healthy cows to achieve the number one goal of producing milk of the highest quality.

It is such a beautiful fall day here at the farm! For anyone who visits, we'd recommend walking some of our trails to catch those beautiful colors because they're gone. 🍂 🍁

The girls are loving these cooler temperatures just as much as we are. Cows tend to handle cooler weather better than the summer heat, which can help keep them comfortable and keep milking cows producing well!

Shout out to Stephanie! 😌

There’s no one more positive or ready to take on the day at 5 am! On top of working a full-time career off the farm, she’s been milking with us on Sundays and throughout the week whenever needed. She’s been such a wonderful addition to our team, and we’re so grateful to have her!

A day at the beach sounds nice, but for cows, sand is serious business! 🐮🏖️

Sand provides a comfortable, supportive surface for cows to lie down, drains well, and contains little organic material when clean. Unlike organic bedding materials, sand doesn’t provide as much of a food source for many mastitis-causing bacteria, helping reduce cows exposure to environmental pathogens. Plus, a comfortable cow is a cow that can rest easy!

In 1951, Ivan Bohanan purchased and installed what is recognized as New Hampshire’s first milk bulk tank!

Before Ivan installed the bulk tank, dairy farmers across New Hampshire stored and transported their milk in 5- and 10-gallon metal cans.

The bulk tank changed milk handling on the farm. Freshly collected milk could be cooled and stored in one refrigerated tank until it was picked up for processing, helping improve efficiency and maintain milk quality! 😀

A healthy new arrival for Elaria (2374)! 🐄

Elaria is known for her sweet personality and excellent milking ability, and we’re so happy to see her welcome another healthy calf. We’re hopeful this little one will grow up to be just as great as her dam! 😌

This is a really big deal for our farm, our family, and our entire team.

Today, we’re unloading our new robotic milking system, an automated system designed to give our herd the freedom to choose when they want to be milked.

There are so many features built into this technology that are designed with the health, comfort, and productivity of our cows in mind. It will help reduce physical labor and stress for our team, while supporting our herds wellbeing.

We still have some time ahead of us until everything is installed and will eventually help our cows adjust to their new routine. But we’re incredibly excited about what this means for the future of our farm.

We can’t wait to share more of the process with all of you who support what we do. Thank you for being along for the journey! 🤍🐮

We need your help naming this sweet red and white calf! ❤️🤍

Her dam is Lennox, who is out of Lavalee (1726). The family line continues through Luvgood (1357), Lupin (876), and La Nina (610), the original cross, born in 2001! This family goes way back.

La Nina’s dam was purchased from Peter and Ann Sawyer. La Nina was half Holstein, half Jersey, and she started a family line that we’re proud to continue today.

There’s no specific naming theme, but an L name is a must to honor this special family! We will pick the name that we feel fits her best on September 30th. Whoever’s name we choose will receive a Creamery T-Shirt! We will message directly from the Creamery page, no other page!

So… what should we name her? 😌🤍
