With the hot dry weather we had to do something to keep the sorghum going. We set up our generator to run a sump pump hooked to a garden hose. It works better than we thought it would. The recent rains and cooler weather has been a blessing.

It is truly a blessing when you get the opportunity to help a neighbor. We have an Amish community that lives close to us and we have had the chance to work with them on numerous occasions. We have developed a friendship with a few.
This weekend and two weeks ago we helped one of them move a sawmill from Lake Ozark to his house.
It was quite the endeavor. The mill probably hadn't ran since the late 80's. Everything came apart like it was assembled yesterday. We learned alot about sawmills and this places particular history. The mill sat at what was Stanton Mfg. They made wood turnings and accessories for the awards industry and the also made small cedar and walnut boxes. At their height they employed about 75 people. They finally closed the doors in early 2020 with less than 10 employees.
The tour the owner gave us was my favorite part, hearing all the history and personal stories. He is 77 and grew up there. The machinery they had kept was something to see. My only regret is I didn't take more pictures.

Congratulations to all the young men and women who participated. Your hard work paid off.

What an incredible, record-breaking night.

There are no words to express our deep gratitude to our community. Tonight, we raised $269,812.05 at our Annual Market Animal Sale. At an average sale, we typically bring in $120,000. Every single penny goes directly back to the exhibitors.

Thank you, Lebanon Community, for supporting the Youth in Agriculture. This Market Animal Sale will go down in history.

Free package of bacon to the first person to tell me what this is. We haven't posted about it yet. Will be ready this fall. I am pretty excited about it. The plant spacing is to close and it will have to be thinned, only hint you get.

If I have spoke with you about it you can't play.

Say hello to Raizel (Ray-zel), Raizel means rose. Raizel was a bit of a suprise as we didn't know Rosie was expecting. Rosie has been a tank for quite some time but didn't show any signs she was pregnant. We had a neighbors bull get in late summer last year. He was in with ours for 5-6 hours.

This is what farming is about here. Family is part of everything we do here. Everyone is included in everything that happens here. Hard work is part of life. We teach them that it isn't to be feared or looked down upon. It is to be met head on and done right. And at the end of the day we look at what we accomplished and what we have gained. Today we gained security in tomorrow.

There may be snow on the ground, but spring is right around the corner, and here at the farm, we are making preparations for this years pigs.

We made a trip up north today to the Fortuna/Versailles area to pick up 1,000 lbs of non-gmo pig feed from LNS Feed. Tomorrow, we will be making the drive to the Cole Camp area to pick up 16 little pigs! 🐷

👀 Be on the lookout; we will be sending messages to those on the waiting list for whole and ½ pigs. If you are interested in a whole or ½ pig for this fall processing comment below or message the page.

We hope you all have a blessed and warm weekend!

We are boiling again today! Almost done with the 30 gallons we collected yesterday. Still have another 30 or 40 in the woods to collect tomorrow. To say it is a little warm in the sugar shack is an understatement. Our thermometer on the wall opposite our stove is pegged out at over 120° and the kids left some crayon in the shack and they are melting. 😬

The walnut trees are loving the Missouri weather this week. Full sun and in the 40s and 50s during the daytime, and below freezing at night. We will be spending the next few days boiling sap down to syrup and bottle. Be on the lookout for our photos and videos of the process.

We have 17 taps out so far. Filtering some mostly finished syrup. Walnut sap contains pectin which makes it hard to filter. We usually filter our syrup five to six times to help with plugged filters making it easier to do.

The wind hasn't been nice to our little building. This is where we make our walnut syrup. So we took advantage of the building being temporarily relocated.

We cleaned up all the old wood we had as flooring put down some gravel and put the building back on it. Set the evaporater up and we are running some water and enjoying being out of the house.

Haven't posted much lately. Been very eventful and crazy busy around here. Our old Ford finally laid down. Replaced it with a 2000 dodge 2500. Kelli's mom purchased some property in niangua so we have been working on making preparations to move in a mobile home. Shout out to JD Geneti for the clearing and prep work he was able to get done. I finished cutting the driveway and we have been hauling gravel. Had to remove 2 porches off of the house before it can be moved. We also baled 300 squares for a new customer in fair grove.
