What gives us hope and orientation in a world of suffering? - Words from David
As the light increases and, believe it or not, the first hairs of the horses' winter coats are beginning to shed, by forces far greater than our individual motivation, we have begun the cycle of a new season. Don't believe me? Still shivering, shoveling, chipping, and scraping your way through the contracted and frozen world? Find it hard to imagine that anything could possible sprout, let alone grow wild and bear exquisite and succulent fruit from the frozen-like-concrete earth beneath that we haven't even seen or touched in months?
Rest assured, the cycle will and, indeed, has begun again. As it has since the beginning of time and will long after we are dust. Cycle, not circle, but a spiraling cycle that brings us each year into seasons and landscapes that are indeed familiar, informed by the past, but yet are newly created each year, each day, each minute.
What will we be a part of creating in this year ahead, in this journey around our graciously shining star? These were among the questions that Britt, Maggie, and I asked ourselves a couple of weeks ago when we sat in retreat to create space to voice our intentions, yes, but also to receive the guidance that graciously offers itself when we pause and open, for the year ahead.
Abundant nourishment of body and soul, restoration, affirmation of what is possible and the employment of imagination as resistance tumbled right into the space. Healing of a long-broken relationship between children and Mother. Gratitude and compassion. Generosity and joy. These are among the impulses that offered themselves to us when we opened.
So I invite you, once again, in this familiar, yet entirely unprecedented moment in our evolution, not just as humans, but as a living planet, to join us in listening through our imagination, and in cultivating that which is possible.
Please remember that our work on this farm is the expression not just of the farmers, nor just of the land, but of the dynamic relationship between our community and the Earth which sustains us. Love what's happening here? Sign up for a CSA share to support and be a part of our work. Want to make this nourishment available to people across the full spectrum of financial means? Consider contributing as a sustainer or donating to the farm share fund. We are committed to making membership in the farm available to all and we need community support to realize that.
Thank you, thank you, and thank you again for imagining with us.
