This year, I'm excited to offer a series of casual, no fuss, herb walks on the farm! We will adventute around the property identifying plants in the woods and explore our culinary and medicinal herb gardens. Each month will be a different experience based on what's in season! We will learn about the botany of the plants, how to grow and harvest each one, how to work with them in our kitchens, how to prepare herbal recipes at home, and more. I can't wait to share these powerful plant allies with you!

While registration is required, tickets are a nominal donation on a sliding scale between $5-$20, so pay what you can and come join us! ☺️

Yesterday was the perfect day to prune the blueberry bushes! 🫐 These bushes were gifted to us by my sister, who dug them up from her yard 3 or 4 years ago. I'm not sure how old they were when we got them, but I haven't pruned them since they've been here. 😬

They're prolific producers, but last year, I did notice the harvest was a little less than the year prior. Of course, that could be caused by many things (so many factors to consider!), but one thing that helps keep the bushes healthy is pruning. 👏

This transformation may look drastic, but this was a long overdo task, and the old canes were plentiful. My goal was to reduce the old growth and dead branches by 50-70%. This puts the energy into creating new canes and big berries on the existing canes. 🫐

So. Much. Ice. 🥶 Took some time, but we were able to safely move the cars and get half the driveway cleared. Whew! Spent the day inside with my little helper organizing seeds while Ken worked on the wash/pack station upgrades. It is very exciting to do some things this winter to make our little farm operation more efficient! In the picture is a drying rack (not finished) for leafy greens and roots.

Day 1 recap! Ken met the farmer who helped us get this whole operation started 7 years ago with his online resources, books, and YouTube channel! thanks for all you do! Carolyn learned about getting a mushroom operation started with Steve Gabriel. Great lunch down the street at Cafe One Eight. Then we learned a few tips on spotting pest and disease on crops, tied some actual farm knots and had one of the best meals at YUUUM!! Best part about the day was conencting with our peers though, always a good time with farmers!

Coming up in a few weeks! I'm excited to be teaching a class on a Sunday afternoon. Elderberry Syrup is a staple in our family's winter wellness remedies. And it's SO easy to make! There are a lot of variations too so you can make the syrup differently based on what your flavor preferences are.

In this workshop we will meet Elderberry and get to know herbs through a guided meditation. And then we will get busy making syrup and learning about the herbs used in the recipe.

Everyone will leave with their own bottle of elderberry syrup, the recipe and the confidence to continue making this herbal recipe at home.

Got the last harvest of 2024 done today and tidied up the field a bit with the help of my mom. Strained my ankle yesterday, though, and I pushed it a bit too far today, so I had to cut things short. 😬 Grateful for the ability to kick up my feet and relax this afternoon. ☺️

What a cool resource from the garden and one of my favorite things to grow! I'll have a limited number of sponges at the Hopewell Holiday Bazaar this Saturday, December 7th and if there's any left, Sunday at The Sanctuary! First come, first serve! 😍

This is definitely not an exhaustive list and really isn't even top 5, but just some awesome varieties we grew that tasted and looked great in the field.

Seychelles is my favorite pole bean! It's stringless, crunchy and a prolific producer. Just when I think they're done, more flowers start popping up. Good stuff.

Space F1 spinach was amazing, consistent crop, tasty, huge leaves and easy to harvest.

Napoli was the funnest, but that's because carrots are my favorite crop to grow 🤫 don't tell the other plants. Just a great root, quick growing and resisted pests well. 10/10

Black Seeded Simpson lettuce was just dang good. Incredibly tasty and got rave reviews from customers.

Early Wonder tall top beets, really it's all in the name. A beautiful, easy beet. Nice foliage, juicy and delicious.
