Embryo transfer day.
A few close-ups from behind the scenes of the process.
A flush is essentially a way of recovering eggs from a donor cow after the follicles have been prepared for collection. During a flush, fluid is used to gently recover embryos from a donor. That collection is then examined under a microscope so the embryologist can find the eggs/embryos and evaluate what was recovered. The embryos that are suitable for transfer are then placed into recipient females that have been synchronized to be at the right point in their reproductive cycle.
It’s a pretty incredible process when you get to see the details up close—and an important part of where we’re headed with our genetics.
