With these cool nights we worried about the strawberry plants but to our delight they seem to love it. Next season’s strawberries are getting closer every day.
Our focus now is watering every day, scouting the field often looking for issues and protecting them from deer. Deer love bright green strawberry leaves in winter.

We also thank our volunteers and staff ,they made this happen
The Greenhouse is evolving into a great space. It created a beautiful backdrop for the night.
The conversation was enriching, never a dull moment and we cannot thank you all enough. We asked you to invest in our vision of the future of this farm and you answered in kind.

We’re trying something new on the farm. If you’ve ever considered a bonafide farm to table dinner then here’s your chance. With the unexpected expansion of the farm our coffers have run dry. We’re hoping to raise enough to stay here until spring, when our season is in.
It’s difficult for us to put ourselves out there like we have. We much prefer to simply farm. Our hope is that we can keep this land in agriculture. We believe we are an asset to our immediate community of Cordesville and to the wider surrounding area. There aren’t many farms left and we see why. Our costs have skyrocketed and the work is endless. We do this because we love growing food, we love the life.
There is no more endangered land than ours. We don’t have a magic hat to pull from but we do have a unique, beautiful, productive, fertile farm that we hope to continue farming. We open it every spring for everyone to see where and how we grow our crops. If we can’t sell fruit, vegetables and dinners then we’ll have to sell acres. That is a cut that never heals. It’s taken 26 years to put this farm back together and we’re going to do everything we can to keep it farming.
Thanks for all of your support over the years. With prayers and work we hope to continue producing strawberries and vegetables long into the future.

Well another year’s strawberry planting is done. Our friend Sikoh Kiyomoto was visiting all the way from Japan. When he saw the challenge ahead of us he rolled up his sleeves and pitched right in. What a gift good friends are. The crew all pitched in with everything they had and we knocked out our biggest planting ever.
As always we’re hopefully optimistic about the coming season. For us strawberry season is in full swing. We’ll spend the next 5 months growing and protecting these beauties and with a little luck, prayer and a lot of sweat equity you’ll have some strawberries to pick and we’ll be able to keep farming. Every year Is a gamble.
We’re growing in many ways out here and want to thank you all for your many years of patronage.

If you’re interested in great conversation , exceptional food and an evening on the farm, we’d love to have you.

Well ,we’ve been busy of late.
A few months ago we were approached by our neighbors. They owned the old home site, the original farmhouse and the remaining farmland. This is the key to our farm growing into the future. The options were to allow it to be bought and divided into house lots or we leverage everything we own and put the farm back together. We chose to go for it. We put the farm back together.
We tripled our growing capacity, assumed countless new projects and see nothing but possibilities. It’s exhausting, the stress is overwhelming but we feel honored to be the new stewards of this land. Our hope is to keep the land producing, as a farm, for years to come.
We have been overwhelmed by the love and support you’ve shown over the past 15 years. We ask that you continue. We’ll be posting updates on progress and hope you will find it informative. This is going to take a while. The land has been fallow for 25 years , growing nothing but broomstraw and briars. We’re going to show you the steps to take to create healthy, productive soil.
Last week we began soil building by adding lime to bring up the PH. In short , this makes the nutrients in the soil available to the plant your growing.
We will be posting opportunities for you to be involved in the near future. Everything from volunteering to fundraising. We’re in a new era of farming and hope we can count on community support.

This week on the farm.
We’re planting fall crops, enjoying the cool mornings and praying for rain. It’s dry as a chip out here but fortunately we can irrigate.
We’re beginning to make beds for the strawberries. This Is when the real grind begins.
