I didn't really start gardening until a year ago. I really enjoy it. I spend the last 20-30 minutes of my day out here winding down. This is the way my Papaw Miller did it. The last few minutes of the day, we would go and work in the garden. I'm glad my kids get the same experience I did growing up. My wife is a canning machine, and we eat well all winter.

No, it's not orange Hi-C. It's our new teat dip that we use to clean our cows' udders before milking. I absolutely love this stuff; it cleans well and has a conditioner in it that softens their skin.

It has been a busy morning, trying to beat the rain! We woke up early to prepare for our Georgetown milk drop-off. Last night, we had gravel delivered, and a neighbor came over this morning to level off the spot where we will have our new building, which will hold our milk coolers for farm pick-up and eventually some of our gristmill products. We look forward to having the extra space and adding some products.

Can you see the cream line? Most store-bought milk is homogenized, which separates the fat globules and distributes them across the milk. With raw milk, it settles on top and you shake it to spread it out. Lauren likes to take some of the cream off the top and use it for coffee.

Our milk isn't pasteurized either. If you look into the history of milk, you'll see that there were a lot of bad practices that made pasteurization a major benefit. Raw milk is making a comeback through herd shares and 'pet' milk because people realize that with proper cleaning procedures and healthy animals, it's safe, and you get the benefit of all the nutrients and enzymes that would be killed through pasteurization.

A big thank you to the vets at Owen County Animal Clinic. They are top-notch guys and gals with a great new facility. Tori, one of our Brown Swiss cows, was having some foot trouble, and they got her all fixed up.
