There’s an old saying “If you got em, you will lose them.” I hate that saying. Yesterday, our cow Zapp, had a nice big heifer calf, unexpectedly. We brought the calf and cow to the barn and milked some colostrum from Zapp and drenched the calf because she didn’t look like she had drank any. We came back and the calf had been stepped on by Zapp. These things happen sometimes. I hate it. I wish I could just breathe life back into that calf. It was the kids first experience with a newborn calf. Andy really made me proud when he jumped in and helped me. They helped me drench her and learned that you can do everything right and things just don’t go your way sometimes. That’s life.

Something special about it, the relationship between animals and man. I’m just blessed to be apart of it. It was written in the first book of Genesis 1:26
Then God said “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Our son noticed this trailer looked like the back of a truck. We got a kick out of his description.

In the middle of nowhere in a hay field or bush hogging pastures, he seems to show up with a bag of blueberry muffins and something cold to drink. I think Papaw Steve might be their favorite person.

We broke down rolling hay today. I’m thankful for good neighbors that bailed us out this afternoon.
P.S. The weather man sits on a throne of lies, it wasn’t supposed to rain until Sunday. They changed the forecast right after we had just mowed a bunch of hay down, so we were rushing to get it done.

When I was 10 years old, I remember I told my PawPaw Miller that when I grow up I wanted to be a congressman or a farmer. He looked at me and said, “If they’re straight when they get in there, they will be crooked when they leave.” My political ambitions were crushed. However, I punched out at my public job for the last time today. I gave them a months notice and now, I will be a full time farmer. I want to thank all of our herd share members and anyone who has bought cornmeal or a freezer beef. I am excited about the future of agriculture and the direction it’s heading. People want to know their farmer and where their food comes from. It’s a whole new generation and it’s exciting times to be a farmer right now.
