Covington Farmers Market
The season may be waning, but amazingly, we still have a few Eggplant, more Serrano Chiles, Tomatillos and of course, Greens. Since Soup Weather can't be far off, Portuguese Kale would make great Caldo Verde
I still have fresh Basil, Rosemary & Bay Leaf.
And I'll be taking orders for Holiday wreaths and swags. Please note my sources are limited this year and priority will be given to old customers, in gratitude for 20+ years of returning the frames

Great news Covington Farmers Market: our Eggplant, Chiles & Tomatos were spared the frost! Of course the Kale & Collards couldn't care less, and after withstanding pests all Summer, have the last laugh
Besides those favorites, we plan on bringing Apples from our neighbors at Ayres Family Orchard
Also please note the abundant growth of Juniper (Eastern Red "Cedar" - it will be wreath season soon (dates at Braxton tba)

Covington Farmers Market, Saturday Sept 21, 2024
Seems we're being cheated out of Fall.
That's OK if we'll have Eggplant in October. Greens survived several onslaughts of caterpillars, and the first Cherry Tomatoes (limited) will be here
Baba Ghanouj: 2 cups roasted mashed Eggplant, quarter cup Tahini, 4 or 5 or 6 cloves Garlic (nice if roasted), Tbsp Lemon Juice, Tbsp Olive Oil, salt to taste, but taste it first
Local grocery no Pita Bread, served with Ritz Chips (but I could eat it with a spoon)

Covington Farmers Market friends: a lesson from 1950's 4H: the best Zucchini are under 10" long, glossy and still tender.
We'll have plenty this Saturday, along with Collards, Blue and Portuguese Kale, fresh Basil, Rosemary, Bay Leaf & other Summer Squash
Looking ahead, the cooler nights will help get Chiles into production: they won't set fruit if nights are over 65. Look for Ananheim (Hatch), Serrano, Cayenne and Thai Hot, by end of the month.

At Covington Farmers Market, this Saturday, July 27: finally, plenty of Zucchini & Summer Squash, and lots of Collards & Kale. Cut herbs Basil, Thai Basil, Rosemary & Bay Leaf.
Plus a Wildlife note: one of our most valued beneficial insects, a Lacewing, rescued from a rain barrel & getting her delicate wings adjusted. She looks gravid: hope she survives at least to deposit eggs

A VERY welcome rain has us back mowing and weeding. My every-other-week plan for Covington Farmers Market is working out well. Wishing everyone a great day tomorrow: our new location at 425 Madison has plenty of shade and breezes

Climate change, and Zone Drift, have brought us a new and more prolific Cabbage pest, the Cross-striped Cabbage "worm" formerly of Georgia & Carolinas
