Good morning everyone! Iād like to have a conversation and get some feedback on topics that have come up during our first week of being open.
Thereās been a lot of discussion on our building, ordering process, and weather. When we leased this building we saw the potential of bringing back the old nostalgic feeling of the drive ins and patio seating of places like the beloved 3 Jās that our building was once a home to. We wanted to create a space that was a hub to the community for gathering and brought back that fun nostalgic vibe.
We originally had plans to install outdoor shade structures to protect our patio and ordering area from the sun and rain. Similar to the covered carport/patios that you see outside of many food trucks in Tehama County and beyond. However, we were told by the City of Corning that these temporary structures were not allowed. There is not a temporary structure in their eyes, they are not ācommercialā rated, and donāt have the earthquake ratings for their code requirements.
So we looked into meeting their requirements. Which is essentially a permanent D rated steel building without walls. This will run upwards of $18,000. This is not in our current budget for a building that is being rented and not owned by us.
Many of you love our building renovation and bringing back the window ordering. Some of you do not. Many of you want indoor seating available. Some of you want table side service.
Some of you want to be able to order inside.
We also ran into an issue with our building being cool enough for you. A couple notes on thatā¦the split units in our building are not sufficient to get the building below 85 degrees when it is over 100 outside. To improve that, weāre looking at another 13k investment.
The bottom line is we canāt we canāt please everyone. We can only do the best we can with the square footage we have available. We canāt make this building any bigger.
This building has been around a long, long time and has housed many wonderful eateries throughout the years. We only have room for 6 tables inside. We canāt change that, and thatās why we are focusing so much on the outdoor patio space. If we allow indoor ordering, with the lines we have, the dining area would be too congested and the people sitting to eat would have butts in their faces the whole visit and it would pose a fire safety evacuation issue and ADA compliance issue. So the only real solution would be to remove the indoor seating to allow everyone to order inside during the rain and heat.
So Iām asking youā¦my wonderful community, what would you propose to help this small business deal with the challenges of this issue?
