First California quail hatch, on the hill, and their proud poppa. Sorry it's a rough pic, but they weren't gonna hang around and say cheese....

Turkey nest. Yes momma is still on it. Unfortunately, she is probably a young hen, as she did such a poor concealment job. Hopefully, they make it to hatch, before a raccoon has eggs for breakfast. Additionally, we’ve observed a momma mallard and 5 ducklings, but they are super camera shy. Lots of valley quail nests, but haven’t seen any of those cute little puffball quail babies, yet. Not sure about the wood duck box. Haven’t seen any of those ducklings, yet, but they are exquisitely camera shy. We had one Canada goose gosling, this spring, but we're pretty sure the momma lost it. Should be lots of dove, and hummingbird nests, to boot, out in the orchards.

We mow our orchards around the wildflowers, like these triplet lilies, and they pay us back by creating habitat for beneficial insects. Letting the native flowers, and grasses go to seed, before mowing them for green manure, allows the benefit to continue every year.

Momma goose only hatched a single gosling this year. Hopefully the mallards have better production. Haven’t seen any wood ducks, but they’re pretty sneaky.
