Probably our least favorite part of ethical and responsible chicken keeping is figuring out what to do with all the extra boys. 🐓

That’s exactly why we continue to offer Rooster Collection Day.

On Saturday, August 15th, Hatch It House will be collecting surplus roosters at The Omelet Abbey and taking the time to make sure they are handled humanely and responsibly.

If you’re planning to bring birds, please head over to the Facebook event, mark that you’re coming, and read through the event description so you know what to expect before drop-off.

We couldn’t help ourselves… more Black Copper Marans eggs are officially in the incubator 🖤🥚

You asked and we listened. There’s been such a high demand for these rich, dark chocolate layers 🤎

We’re taking prepaid orders for about a dozen chicks, but you know the rule—we don’t count our eggs before they hatch 😅
There’s always a chance we’ll have a few extras available on hatch day.

These will be unsexed chicks from solid lines, bred for those deep, chocolatey eggs we love. And yes… they’ll be hatching from these exact eggs 👏

We have a small group available:
🐓 1 rooster + 3 hens (approx. 1 year old)

All four have been genetically tested and are homozygous for the blue egg layer gene 💙🥚

These are Black Ameraucanas split to lavender, with very sweet temperaments—including the roo.

✔️ Healthy, active, and laying
✔️ Great starter breeding pen
✔️ Quality birds with known genetics

We are refining our breeding program for deeper blue egg color next season, which is why this group is being offered.

We’ve been going back and forth on this… but we’re considering downsizing our Easter Egger pen, including a few of our frizzled girls.

Egg basket goals, honestly. 🧺
Light pink, mauve tones, soft gray shades, and a few with that heavy bloom that gives them that dusty, almost antique finish.

Part of us says keep them all.
The other part says maybe it’s time to share a few.

Also, we still have very limited baby chicks left from our March 18 hatch. A few of those are frizzled too. 🐣

Wendy and Wilbur are genuinely confused how we still have a few Welsummer chicks left from our last hatch… and honestly, same 😅

These are purebred Welsummers. Rich, rusty feathering, bold personalities, and those signature deep terracotta eggs with speckles that never get old.

If you’ve been on the fence, this is your sign. Once they’re gone, that’s it for the season.
