Spent the morning w**d whacking, w**ding, and then finally planting the 39 Connecticut fields Pumpkin plants that have been patiently waiting in their trays for this day. Watered them in. Three hours of work in before the temp hit 80. Bug net was necessary. Doesn’t look like much now but this ‘before’ pic will be in stark contrast to the Pumpkin patch it’s going to become!

Hot and humid couple of days. Torrential rain again this morning at around 5:30. The gardens are fully hydrated so I don’t need to water them! I’m going to stay inside and hide from Mother Nature and do house stuff…I walked by this African Violet in my living room and exclaimed out loud, “Oh, how beautiful!” Had to take a pic. Have a great Friday, whatever you’re up to!

It’s Peony season! Drink it all in! The fragrance is divine, an absolutely dreamily beautiful time of year.

Last night’s torrential, long, lasting downpour and thunderstorm was so good for mother nature. I went up to the gardens this morning to check them out and they are very happy. The very large weird green plant with a white flowering stem near the black plastic row cover is gigantic horseradish of which I have two plants that I purchased years and years ago as teeny tiny 3 inch high babies. Honestly, I have no idea what to do with these plants.

Went to check on my booth at the Colonial Plaza Antiques Mart in West Lebanon, NH this afternoon. I realized that I’ve been shopping here for just about two thirds of my lifetime so far! Love this place. I scored today with a cookbook that is so retro it feels like I’ve got the ancestors with me! It is fabulously nostalgic for me to see these recipes, many of which I was served by my grandmother here in Plainfield, NH. I’m going to a cookbook club event that’s theme is ‘family favorites’. Haha! I’m going to make my very first JELLO MOLD fruit salad! I’m thinking black cherry walnut. Hahaha! Flashbacks to summer jello molds of the 1960s! And then of course, there’s the good old fashioned baked beans and brown bread every, and I do mean every, Saturday night! This cookbook is gold to me.

I’ve been out and about and saw this beauty. I grew up in a city but my ‘elderly’ years are being lived out in the countryside. I love it. Not for everyone, though!! Don’t go near snapping turtles! They can lunge and bite you very very badly! It’s their egg laying season on land. She’s lovely, in my opinion!

Finished planting my 100’ by 50’ garden and it’s filled with watermelon, cantaloupe, pie pumpkins, big pumpkins, tomatoes, basil, parsley, beans, eating corn, ornamental corn, gourds, grapes, blueberries, raspberries, pears, apples, and of course, flowers and herbs galore! This has been weeks in the making. I cannot tell you how tired I am this evening! Physically spent but so excited it’s finished! The next project is to plant the old Song Garden with pumpkins, sunflowers, etc etc! First we (Dan) had to take back the Song Garden by cutting down and pulling the forest of golden rod, mint, Sweet Annie, etc! It’s just about ready to be planted. Planting two GIANT gardens is a major workout for us and takes about a month…and we seem to still love every grueling minute of it.

I’m back inside, now that I’ve spent the entire morning outside… gardening: planting, w**d whacking, and watering. I took these pics of what’s going on inside early this morning of the beauty that’s unfolding with my latest crop of juvenile propagated African Violets getting ready to push out blooms galore. I thought they looked particularly happy and healthy today.
