The Pocket Fire is now mostly contained thanks to the tireless work of our firefighters, the forest service and all the community members that supported their hard work!
And thank you to everyone that showed us and Arizona wineries a tremendous amount of support after our last post about the Pocket Fire. We were not expecting how far this post would reach. And understandably, we've received a lot of questions on here and from people visiting the vineyard, so we'd like to provide an update from our founder, Eric:
"SOOO great to have the Pocket Fire contained and no longer belching smoke into our valley. So great to know Sedona is safe. Just this week we sent grape samples to a famous lab in California, called ETS (Enology Testing Services). We picked 300 berries each from two different blocks at Dos Padres Vineyard (Barbera and Carignan) and sent them in to see just how much the smoke affected them. Smoke impacts red wine much more than white because by design, reds are fermented on the skins – where the smoke sinks in. Whites get pressed to juice, and rosés spend very little time on the skins – so they are a much lower risk. Only time and testing will tell, but rest assured; PSC will NEVER make wines that aren’t great and up to our (and your) standards. At this point, and the season isn’t over yet, the only risk you might have as our guests is that there may be more rosé than usual, down the road. And, if I only told you how many of our great wines came from mistakes or really screwy situations, you may just believe old Ben Franklin when he said, “Out of Adversity comes Opportunity”. Bring it on Mother Nature. We ain’t scared!"
