Some of our sustainability initiatives include: our solar-power and Tesla battery system which provides 100% of our electricity, onsite waste-water treatment which is then used for our landscape irrigation, onsite composting which gets returned back into our vineyard’s soil, and a robust recycling program.

Who is she??? 🧜‍♀️✨

She’s a mermaid corkscrew, crafted in the 19th century by German knife makers. Typically made with celluloid and painted with silver, this one is special because most of silver paint has survived to this day, so you get to see her in all her glory.

But why make a mermaid into a corkscrew? German craftsmen made other styles of figural corkscrews (which you can see in our gallery), but in the early 19th century, the idea of mermaids had transitioned from folkloric water-spirits to the half-human, half-fish aesthetic. The stories of Lorelei and The Little Mermaid, both published in the early 19th century, romanticized mermaids and artisans followed suit with their own renditions, apparently in corkscrew form.

You can see her, and her beautiful friends, in our W**eleopard Corkscrew Gallery here at Page Springs Cellars. Every month, we’ll post a different corkscrew you can see in our gallery. Try to find the corkscrew of the month when you visit, take a photo, and tag us!
