When the sap wants to run and it’s still freezing hard, this is the result. Looking back this was a not the best design for a manifold. It connects the dry and wet line and so that when it does freeze the sap will transfer to the dry line. But when too much sap is in the manifold when it freezes hard, it blows it apart. I’ll follow up with another post on how I fixed it.

A short visual of gas flow from a maple tree. This is the dynamic by which a liquid (sap) flows from the tree. In time the tube will fill with liquid and move at a snails pace through the system until it gets to the extractor, where it will finally dump into the holding tank.

Initial startup went fine. First bit of “tapping sap “ is a little cloudy but maybe salvageable. I think we are off and running for the season.
