It’s been a wild week already! We have lots of little babies this week. As the bunnies give birth the smell alone will bring in the snakes so make sure your rabbit enclosures are snake proof. As we are tending to our rabbits it’s a family event, the dogs and cats join us doing their duty of checking on things. Our cat decided to keep a rattlesnake at bay while we tended to the buns and then the dogs tried to get involved so mom and dad had to get involved lol. One of our beehives (we call it hive 1) I don’t even know where to begin on this hive. So every time we do an inspection there’s a new queen with no signs of a hatched cell. We bought a queen she was doing good and then did our routine check and she was gone and there was another queen. I started marking them red so I’d know if they disappeared. I keep killing the queens and then a new one will be there and no signs of a formed cell. We do checks every 2 weeks but just under so if we miss a queen cell it doesn’t have time to hatch out. So I’m kinda at the point where I don’t wanna requeen until the takeovers subside. It can get expensive doing so.
I had to save my baby buns as mom birthed a still born and the ants started biting the babies so they got moved temporarily and mom handled it pretty well. Our hummers are getting ready for flight. We learned that when the babies get pinfeathers mom will not sit on them anymore but she will be close by. We were worried she might have died and then she showed and fed the babies. It’s been so cool watching them grow from the back door.
We have a broody Turkey and Chicken so naturally all my Turkeys will get broody just when the one girl has them almost hatched. Then they will fight to sit on the eggs and break them. I was hopeful that wouldn’t happen because my very mean girl is the one that went broody first and she’s a force to be reckoned with. We shall see what happens. I taught my first soap class and that was a ton of fun. I’m thinking of something’s I can do differently as I have so many ideas floating around in my head that keeps me entertained at night while the world is fast asleep. Jolson is still hatching butterflies and studying all kinds of insects he’s finding. He’s gonna start work on his quail houses soon. Hope I didn’t miss anything but it’s been a busy few weeks. We hope your week has been wonderful. Peace, love and light all. 💕
