The Major Richard Star Act discharge petition reached 218 signatures on Sept. 16.

That means the clean bill can move forward on its own, separate from TCAVA.

Congress may be out of session, but advocacy doesn’t take a break. Find your local town hall and ask your representative if they plan to vote YES on the Major Richard Star Act this Congress, WITHOUT reducing veterans’ compensation to pay for it.

Veterans are watching.

đź“… Wednesday, October 21, 2026

⏰ 7:00 PM

📍 VFW Post 2397 Rec Hall
4441 Ayers St., Corpus Christi, TX

We have invited candidates running for several important public offices, including:

🗳️ Mayor of Corpus Christi

🗳️ At-Large City Council

🗳️ Nueces County Judge

🗳️ Nueces County Commissioner

🗳️ Texas State Representative

WHY IS THIS EVENT IMPORTANT TO OUR VETERANS?

One of our main discussion topics will focus on an issue affecting our veteran community:

What can our elected officials do to better support our younger veterans, especially those struggling with mental health challenges and the risk of su***de?

Each candidate will have three minutes to introduce themselves and share their vision, followed by three minutes to address our veterans’ question.

Our Post Commander, Casimiro Arriola, will moderate the event and ensure a respectful, issue-focused discussion.

🇺🇸 IMPORTANT NOTICE: In accordance with VFW National Bylaws, VFW Post 2397 does not endorse or affiliate with any political candidate, political party, or campaign. This is a strictly nonpartisan event intended to provide information and encourage respectful community dialogue.

ALL VETERANS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS ARE WELCOME!

We look forward to an informative evening focused on the future of Corpus Christi, Nueces County, and the veterans who have served our nation.

Casimiro Arriola Jr

On October 18, Texas VFW recognizes the service and sacrifice of women who have served in our nation’s Armed Forces.

This date marks the 1997 dedication of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery. Now known as the Military Women’s Memorial, it preserves generations of women’s service stories as an essential part of our nation’s military history.

This recognition honors women’s contributions and acknowledges the barriers they have faced in service and in being recognized as Veterans, part of the shared history of our Veteran community.

We honor that history and the women Veterans beside us today, our fellow members, leaders, neighbors, and comrades. Thank you for your service.
