Spring time 🤩

The bloom stage has occurred throughout vineyards in the Corralitos area. Forecasting potential yields and cluster development is on its way!! Looks like it may be another healthy Pinot Noir yielding year.

Vineyard growth is going full steam ahead. Although it’s been a fast growing season so far, flowering has just started in our western most vineyards. 😎
Around this time, winemakers start finalizing new vineyards for the upcoming harvest. I’m excited to say Farm Cottage might have another white wine in the pipeline. 🤗

First things first:
🚨 SPRING RELEASE — MARCH 30th🚨

Now for a very important shoutout. Salvador, my right-hand man, has been absolutely holding it down at the winery these past few weeks, topping, tasting, delivering. He has been doing it all.

I recently had surgery to repair a torn and fractured Lisfranc. The road to a full recovery is a long one, but we’re moving in the right direction.

Thank you all for the continued support and a huge thank you to Salvador for helping us keep producing the best wine we possibly can.

Sheeeeeeeesh this heat has really woken up the vines! We are starting to bud out and the vineyards are soaking up this heat.
🥵🌱
The barrel room is chilling at a cool 49 degrees which helps preserve fruit characteristics and minimize oxidation.
👀
Keep your eyes peeled for the spring release announcement! It’s set to go live Monday, March 30th!

Everything has finished malo-lactic fermentation and the wines are beginning to show true vintage characteristics. I’ve been tasting through all of the lots over the past couple weeks and I’m excited to see the wines evolve over the next several months.
🍷
The spring release is around the corner. I am hoping to release them in April. Two classic SKUs and a brand new bottling 👀.

This summer I had the pleasure to spend the afternoon with of the to discuss Farm Cottage, Alfaro Family Vineyards, stem-inclusion and why Santa Cruz is one of the most exciting growing regions in California.
🍇 ✂️
Being the largest geographical AVA, Santa Cruz has the ability to grow many types and styles of grapes. With its proximity to the Monterey Bay, Santa Cruz vineyards will never lack bright fruit and acid.
⚡️🌊
Incomes stem-inclusion! Stems are such a powerful and sometimes underutilized part of winemaking. I am a firm believer that when used appropriately, the inclusion of stems can add a beautiful tannin structure that is unachievable by other methods. The wines of Farm Cottage are known to be fairly light in extraction, therefore, it is important to use stems to add backbone and tannin.
🙏
Thank you very much I really appreciate your time!

It all began with the 2019 vintage.
The story behind the Farm Cottage label reaches back more than a century, to when the original owners built the cottage from heart redwood. For three generations, apple farmers called this place home.
🪵🏠
In 1997, the Alfaro family purchased the property from the third generation. The land hadn’t been tended in over twenty years and it was time for a new chapter. Time to plant grapes.
🍇
Farm Cottage came to life by chance. During the 2019 vintage, I had the opportunity to work with just one ton of Trout Gulch Pinot Noir. The vision was simple: ferment it 100% whole cluster to highlight the vineyard’s bright fruit and natural acidity, while delivering a grippy mouthfeel.
