We are up to 13 broody hens this week. 🤬

How do broody hens effect egg production. First they stop laying. Secondly they crowd the nest boxes keeping the non broody hens from laying their eggs in there. The result is egg production is down. So what can we do. This week I'll separate out the broody hens to a pen without any nests or nesting materials to snap them out of their broody trance

Hopefully in 2 weeks we will be back up to production on eggs.

How do othet producers avoid these supply issues?

Waste usually they keep 2x as many hens as they need and lots of eggs get wasted every week.

I don't like food going to waste so we do a different model even if it means we have to deal with the inconveniences of the animals natural tendencies of animals.

🥛 Milk Members — Important Delivery Reminder

Starting this week:

❌ No cooler or empties out = no delivery.

Please have either:

🧊 Your cooler out for milk delivery
or
🥛 Your empty bottles out for pickup

on your delivery day.

If you are receiving milk and will not be home, please make sure your cooler is out with ice packs inside. With summer temperatures, milk can turn to yogurt quickly if it sits out in the heat. ☀️

I will also be starting bottle tracking this week. 📝

I understand that most families will naturally have 1–2 bottles at home between deliveries, and that is fine. I am not expecting everyone to have every single bottle returned every week.

What I do need is for bottles to keep coming back each week. If bottles are not returned and your bottle balance continues to grow, overdue bottles will be billed. 🧾

Last week, I got less than half of the bottles back, and I did not have enough bottles to fill everyone’s orders this week, even with a few families being out of town.

Thank you to all of my customers who already return empties every week and have coolers ready. It makes a huge difference and helps keep home delivery running for everyone. 🤍

One of our fresh lamb shoulders in the crock pot for dinner after deliveries today.

Some weeks on the farm go perfect and some don't. This was one of those weeks that didn't. Destiny gave birth to a beautiful heifer calf that was unfortunately still born. It appears the umbilical cord twisted or something.

We also had a couple days where we lost milk due to cow temper tantrums from Daisy aka "Crazy Daisy" my favorite problem cow 🤣.

As a result we came up short on milk for cream and to fill all orders. We will send refund later this week those of you who are missing cream, butter and milk.

Today we are a little short on milk and cream due to the freak cold snap. But we have some good news too!

It is spring calving season and the first baby has arrived ! Miss Daisy blessed us with a beautiful heifer calf. 🥰 over the next 2 months we have 3 more ladies due! This means we are about to be overflowing with fresh milk. All butter subscriptions should be filled. In the next 2 weeks.

Our egg basket is also filling again so eggs will be back regularly.

I really appreciate everyone weatheting the seasons and the ups and downs with us.

We have a hostage situation going on. Daisy and Destiny are due in the next month! Destiny is supposed to go first but judging but udder fill Daisy might. I also think Destiny may have another set of twins in there.
