As the temperatures rise along with the UV index it's time to replace some shade cloth.

The sun is pretty intense at 5500 feet and with something like 345 days of sunshine, adding shade won't slow the garden down much.

I replaced 2 smaller shades in our garden along with a larger one for our chicken run. I have 2 more coming ... one will be for the grow tunnel (unheated greenhouse) which gets far too hot to sustain plant life without shade.

Shade cloth is a great addition to our farm...whether we use them in the garden, chicken coop, to shade the horse's water trough, or even on our deck.

The tomato seeding in the soil were started April 1 (~8 weeks old). The ones in the shield boxes were started April 20 (~5-6 weeks old) using the Kratky Method of hydroponics. It's pretty clear to me that Kratky is far superior...especially if starting seedlings late.

These should all be transferred to the garden around Jun 1. Then we'll see if there are further growth difference.

If you build fences, you need one of these. It's been a game changer for our homestead and has made putting up fences easier simply because we now know if we mess up our layout we can easily make adjustments.

We wasted a lot of money in the past by bending t-posts in our attempt to remove them after changing our minds (or our needs changed).
