Fall is in the air, the aspens are starting to get hints of yellow, I am sad to see the ranunculus go but the anemones, sunflowers and larkspur are filling in for the last days of summer.

In 10 years this has to be the best crop of ranunculus I have produced! These beauties are heading out for a very special bride

Fall ranunculus are pretty awesome! I have never grown fall ranunculus before and so happy I gave it a go, I was concerned about how they would handle the hot summer temps of July but have to say I am super happy with this fall crop.

It’s been some work this summer but starting over is starting to pay off. The farm store was relocated from Corvallis to Elliston. Loads of dirt being moved for perennial beds, new annual beds going in before fall. I will say I have never had dahlias, anemones and ranunculus blooming at the same time, can’t wait to see how that turns out. In my mind I was having a small growing area but of course after throwing up some fencing I decided it wasn’t big enough, good thing we are good at fencing around here and can just push the fencing out next year. I learned the elk come by looking for snacks in June after having babies, next year my petunias will be out of their reach. They liked the dark purple variety the most, licked clean, white petunias not so much, but were willing to give it another try if I hadn’t started covering and moving behind 10’ fencing. This year was a lot of trials and pushing to see what was possible in a shorter growing season and a different zone. I will have to work a little harder for warm season annuals, cold season annuals will thrive here which is good for me because I love those varieties

Peonies for the 4th of July!?! I will take it! Always seemed like the peony cropped was so fast in the bitterroot, one day they were there and the next it was over, I remember some years I was lucky if I could stretch the crop out for two weeks. It has been a task working on their new area, I keep telling my mom you only get to enjoy them for a little bit before I snip their heads off, two to three years from now she can swim in peonies but for now I want the plants to focus on establishing. They did pretty good thru winter. Lost a few but overall thrilled with them. Have a wonderful 4th of July, for me we will be hitting the river enjoying every bit of this amazing state we live in.

While the peonies in Corvallis are 3’ tall and have flower buds, the peonies in Elliston are still living in winter. It’s crazy that it’s almost the end of May and snowing, the hydrangeas I dug up and brought out here went from living in tue banana belt to a completely different zone, and it’s only a couple hours in distance. They will like the cooler temps compared to how hot it has been in the bitterroot.

We got it all to fit, and here I was telling my husband I didn’t have a lot of inventory and should have worked harder 😁 good thing he didn’t listen too me

Giving my mom the best Mother’s Day gift any child can give, the opportunity to help build product for upcoming shows this year 😂. I like to see it as her giving back for all the times I was her worker building product for her when I was a kid. She won’t be too happy to see I posted a video of her, it’s a good thing she loves me. Like any good mother she is right there in the trenches working with me, it has been awesome spending more time with her, I am thankful we get to hang out every day, it has been fun.
