While the peonies in Corvallis are 3’ tall and have flower buds, the peonies in Elliston are still living in winter. It’s crazy that it’s almost the end of May and snowing, the hydrangeas I dug up and brought out here went from living in tue banana belt to a completely different zone, and it’s only a couple hours in distance. They will like the cooler temps compared to how hot it has been in the bitterroot.

We got it all to fit, and here I was telling my husband I didn’t have a lot of inventory and should have worked harder 😁 good thing he didn’t listen too me

Giving my mom the best Mother’s Day gift any child can give, the opportunity to help build product for upcoming shows this year 😂. I like to see it as her giving back for all the times I was her worker building product for her when I was a kid. She won’t be too happy to see I posted a video of her, it’s a good thing she loves me. Like any good mother she is right there in the trenches working with me, it has been awesome spending more time with her, I am thankful we get to hang out every day, it has been fun.

Back in the bitterroot to clean up all the berry plants. Last year was an amazing berry season, this winter we were able to put up over 60 pints of jam, between blackberry, raspberry and strawberry. I look forward to another season of amazing berries. My mom and I have so much fun canning, afterwards we enjoy the fruits of our labor, every time a jar is opened it was worth the work and time spent growing and harvesting

Sometimes a prayer for moisture comes in the answer of an atmospheric river storm. While it has been challenging being apart from my husband for the winter I have had fun with my mom the entire time. The last couple of days we dressed up as fat little snowmen to work together clearing snow. I will say it’s pretty awesome that we have fun no matter what we are doing together, even when we are getting into trouble, it helps having a partner in crime.

Sunflowers remind me of a sweet man named Dennis, ages ago when I first started growing and producing flowers I sold at the farmers market. Dennis was an older gentleman that came every week to buy his mom a bouquet of just sunflowers. He told me his mom suffered from dementia and seeing the sunflowers every week would brighten her day, it was a memory for her that she could hold onto even on days when things didn’t make sense.

It’s not so bad having my mom for my neighbor. We see each other every day, generally have at least one meal together, help each other with our chores, pretty soon we will be on snow removal, it’s just like being a kid playing in the snow just with way better toys!!

Nothing like a good wood chopping competition to talk about for many years to come. My mom and I against the teenagers (my son and his girlfriend) we were not about to give up, it was down to the wire. Luckily the teenagers will have another chance to take us on. In the meantime lots of Advil and minimal moving until the next round!

I am excited for the change in season. Dahlias are dug now the grind of peony digging. My sweet mom keeps telling me she could work circles around me, so I figured let’s go for it! I am relocating the 7 year old peony crop to her house which means washing lots of crates for transportation. I love my bulb crates I use them for everything, hauling crops out like tomatoes, corn, potatoes, they store dahlia clumps thru winter, I force bulbs and start certain seeds, I even grow lettuce in winter in them when I don’t want to grow in the tunnels. A great piece of equipment that is so universal.

There have been some incredible moments happening the last couple of weeks as we shift seasons. I need to slow down and enjoy these moments more often instead of rushing around, what else am I missing while I am distracted
