I love the solitude and peace I find when I am doing what I do. From producing fresh cut floral to creating floral frames with the beauty God created, I am the worker that loves taking the beauty and transforming it into something greater. I have some awesome projects to use these preserved florals in and can’t wait to show you what has been in my mind for some time now

As we were getting ready to sit down for Sunday dinner, we could here kittens crying and they were loud! Of course everything was out on pause so we could investigate what was going on, it wouldn’t be normal to find kittens where we live. We have mountain lions, bears, coyotes, foxes, owls, eagles and plenty more predators in the wild here. Behind the house is an animal highway that is used to travel up into the forest and smack in the middle were 5 baby kittens about a month old. We put them in a safe place while having dinner and decided they couldn’t be left out to be someone’s dinner. For now we are running a kitty hotel and safe house, they will be put into forever homes, we already have a bit of a zoo here with 3 cats, two little doodles, a golden and Australian Shepard. For now we are enjoying playtime and giving them a place to play and eat. Need a kitten?

After multiple frosts it’s time to wrap things up for the season. Saying goodbye to the last of ranunculus and hello to the larkspur, this will be the last crop of the season until next year. Anemones and ranunculus will be put to bed for winter, onions harvested, peonies mulched, dahlias dug and beds covered until next spring. I didn’t know what I could accomplish here this year or how long the growing season was, it will vary from year year but now I have a little better idea of what to anticipate and what crops will do better than others. Next year I will be more prepared for the hummingbirds in September, to help fuel them up for their journey south. They didn’t like the crops I was offering this year, next year I will have a better buffet. Mother Nature played her hand this growing season, now I know game on.

Fall is in the air, the aspens are starting to get hints of yellow, I am sad to see the ranunculus go but the anemones, sunflowers and larkspur are filling in for the last days of summer.

In 10 years this has to be the best crop of ranunculus I have produced! These beauties are heading out for a very special bride

Fall ranunculus are pretty awesome! I have never grown fall ranunculus before and so happy I gave it a go, I was concerned about how they would handle the hot summer temps of July but have to say I am super happy with this fall crop.

It’s been some work this summer but starting over is starting to pay off. The farm store was relocated from Corvallis to Elliston. Loads of dirt being moved for perennial beds, new annual beds going in before fall. I will say I have never had dahlias, anemones and ranunculus blooming at the same time, can’t wait to see how that turns out. In my mind I was having a small growing area but of course after throwing up some fencing I decided it wasn’t big enough, good thing we are good at fencing around here and can just push the fencing out next year. I learned the elk come by looking for snacks in June after having babies, next year my petunias will be out of their reach. They liked the dark purple variety the most, licked clean, white petunias not so much, but were willing to give it another try if I hadn’t started covering and moving behind 10’ fencing. This year was a lot of trials and pushing to see what was possible in a shorter growing season and a different zone. I will have to work a little harder for warm season annuals, cold season annuals will thrive here which is good for me because I love those varieties

Peonies for the 4th of July!?! I will take it! Always seemed like the peony cropped was so fast in the bitterroot, one day they were there and the next it was over, I remember some years I was lucky if I could stretch the crop out for two weeks. It has been a task working on their new area, I keep telling my mom you only get to enjoy them for a little bit before I snip their heads off, two to three years from now she can swim in peonies but for now I want the plants to focus on establishing. They did pretty good thru winter. Lost a few but overall thrilled with them. Have a wonderful 4th of July, for me we will be hitting the river enjoying every bit of this amazing state we live in.

While the peonies in Corvallis are 3’ tall and have flower buds, the peonies in Elliston are still living in winter. It’s crazy that it’s almost the end of May and snowing, the hydrangeas I dug up and brought out here went from living in tue banana belt to a completely different zone, and it’s only a couple hours in distance. They will like the cooler temps compared to how hot it has been in the bitterroot.

We got it all to fit, and here I was telling my husband I didn’t have a lot of inventory and should have worked harder 😁 good thing he didn’t listen too me
