Our Story
I fell in love with pão de queijo (pown-gee-kayju) the first time I tasted it; but I didn’t know love until I tried sweet Dona Maristela’s homemade recipe. She is native of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais where pão de queijo (Brazilian Cheese bread) first became popular. My husband and I loved them so much that she offered us her recipe; bless her heart! Well, assuming it was too much work to make them, that recipe sat in my drawer for years until another friend offered me her recipe and insisted it was not all that hard to make. So, I tried both, but Dona Maristela’s was heads and shoulders better above the other.
When my family moved back to the United States in 2010, I was prepared to not have to survive without my beloved pão de queijo! I have been sharing it with my friends and because they love it so much, I wanted to share it with you all. Although I cannot use the same cheese as Dona Maristela’s recipe (because it is only made in Minas Gerais) I have adapted it with the perfect blend of yummy cheeses I can find locally, here in Oregon.
So, with love we offer you these delicious breakfast gems made in small batches with real food and gluten free ingredients!
