Heart Culture Farm with Kara Huntermoon
In this episode, we sit down with Kara Huntermoon at Heart Culture Farm, a 33‑acre community farm in the Long Tom Watershed outside of Eugene. For more than twenty years, Kara has rooted her life here—raising children in an intentional community and within the rhythms of orchards, gardens, pastures, and livestock. In the process, she has grown as a land steward and farmer, while cultivating the biodiversity and resilience of the land itself.
Heart Culture is more than a farm; it is a demonstration site for education, where Kara teaches butchering, permaculture design, and the skills of observation. At the heart of her practice is a long‑term commitment to trees—planting at least 150 every year for more than a decade. Kara is active with the Agrarian Sharing Network (https://agrariansharing.net/) and listeners will learn all about that resource and will hear Kara’s reflections on twenty years of observation, the lineage of mentorship that sustains her, and the lessons of resilience, patience, and experimentation that come from farming as a relationship.
