Wanted to give a shoutout to Eric Hess and Hess Family Farms for getting a timely fungicide application across our corn.

Eric and his crew have been doing custom work for us on both the fungicide and nitrogen side for the past few years, and we’re grateful to have people we can count on to get the job done right and on time.

Looks like we’re heading into a tough stretch of weather over the next 5–7 days. At this point, we’ve done what we can do. Hopefully the crop handles the stress and we come through it with minimal damage.

Checked most of the fields this morning. I have to say we didn’t sleep well last night knowing we had water out in some bottoms. Looks like everything made it through with minimal damage. Looking forward to some much needed sunshine this week.

We’ll wrap up post applications on corn today, along with the final pass of nitrogen. So far, I’m very pleased with how the crop looks. Despite the challenging spring, the corn has responded well and is off to a strong start.

Tomorrow, we shift our focus to soybeans and begin post applications on the acres that are ready. There’s still plenty of work ahead, but it’s always rewarding to see the crop progressing and the season starting to take shape.

After weeks of being sidelined by rain, we’re finally back at it and making up for lost time. Post-emerge applications are rolling, the corn crop is looking excellent, and we’re hoping to have soybeans sprayed by the end of the week. The bean fields are definitely getting a little hairy and are ready for some attention.

We’re also applying Vismax from Mutiny Crop Performance, TerraMar from Agricen and Stratego Yield from Bayer U.S. Crop Science to help keep the crop healthy and performing at a high level through the season. Tomorrow brings the final nitrogen pass as we continue executing the plan and setting the crop up for success.

Soybean replant is done. Ended up replanting around 80 acres. You can see the first-planted beans in the foreground of this picture. It’s a shame.

There are soybeans in this field already blooming, while others in the same field are still in the ground and not even sprouted. Makes for a rough-looking field and a much tougher battle controlling weeds.

I know we’re one of many fighting the same battle this year. Nose to the grindstone.

On the positive side, we did receive 2” of rain overnight, so hopefully that gets the rest of this crop moving in the right direction.

Most of our soybean crop was hit by a frost on May 2nd. They are looking ugly but seem to be starting new growth. Another 3/5 days and we’ll have a good idea on replant or not. Fingers crossed.

We wrapped up soybean planting around April 9. Corn planting started Monday but we shut it down today due to dry conditions. We’re struggling to maintain consistent seed depth, so we’ve decided to hold off until we catch a rain. Hoping for a shift in the weather pattern soon. Getting close to the end of hauling season, another 12–15 loads and we can officially turn the page toward . It won’t be long now.

The 2025 season tested us. Plenty of breakdowns and more than a few curveballs, but that’s part of the journey. Grateful for the team that keeps pushing through it.

Here’s to a smoother, stronger 2026.
