Last week we helped count cave fish and crawdads as part of an ongoing study/ passion project of regional cave life.
An “aquatic bio-inventory” if ya wanna be fancy
Why? You may ask? Tracking population trends can help us better understand what types of aquatic environments they prefer, how do they interact with their environment, does it change throughout the year, how does surface activity affect them, and what does all of this say about the health of the water/streams? etc.
Plus it was a lot of fun!
We counted 12 Hoosier Cave fish and almost 80 crawdads!!
