On this day 118 years ago Pancho Barnes was born. She contributed to the development in Aviation in this country in more ways than one! She was an early barnstormer, self-funded many of Aviators through the Great Depression. Raced across the US in the all- female cross country alongside Amelia Earhardt. She ran Happy Bottom Ranch at Edwards AFB where most the test pilots hung out and she would feed them a steak every time they broke the sounds barrier. She was MWR before MWR. Her ranch burnt under questionable circumstances. She was a unique individual and should be remembered for her contributions to the US Aviation industry!
