Summer is such a busy time—especially this year with an early spring and full summer swing.
There’s so much to be done: swathing, baling hay, fixing fence, turning cows out to pasture, and preparing for harvest. But even in the midst of it all, it’s important to slow down and enjoy the simple things.Tonight was one of those moments—peaceful and beautiful—with our milk cow Rosie, who just calved. We’ve started freeze branding our cows with numbers on their hips for easier, long-term identification.

Hair turns white after freeze branding because the extreme cold destroys the melanocytes—the pigment-producing cells in the hair follicles—without damaging the follicle itself. The result? White hair grows back in the shape of the brand.

There was definitely a bit of a learning curve working with liquid nitrogen containment, but by the time we were done, we had it down to a science!

We currently have beef cooking tallow and whipped tallow balm for sale. Beef tallow is rendered fat also known as suet. Suet comes from the hard white fat on the kidneys. Tallow is great for cooking because it is more stable at high temperatures and contains both saturated and mono saturated fats.
Tallow balm is an excellent moisturizer for skin due to its fatty acid composition and high vitamin content.
