🐴 A clean trailer is a healthy trailer! 🧼✨
When you haul horses for others, cleaning the trailer isn’t just about keeping it looking nice—it’s an important part of equine biosecurity.
Horses and donkeys coming from different barns, auctions, feedlots, rescues, and other facilities can potentially bring infectious organisms along with them. Manure, urine, nasal secretions, contaminated bedding, and even dirt and organic material can contribute to disease transmission.
I regularly strip out all the used shavings, remove manure and debris, scrub the floors and walls, apply disinfectant, and then put down fresh, clean shavings.
One of the most important parts of disinfecting is actually the cleaning that comes first. Disinfectants work best when manure, bedding, dirt, and other organic material have already been removed.
Is it hard, dirty and time-consuming work? Absolutely. 😂 A 24-foot trailer is a LOT of floor and wall space to scrub!
But it’s worth it.
Every horse and donkey that steps onto my trailer is someone’s loved animal and has been entrusted to my care. I can’t eliminate every risk that comes with transporting animals, but I can take biosecurity seriously and do everything reasonably possible to reduce that risk.
It also helps protect my own animals at home, because whatever comes home on my trailer potentially comes home to them.
🧼 Clean trailer.
🌾 Fresh bedding.
🐴 Healthy animals.
❤️ Peace of mind.
Just another part of the job that happens behind the scenes.
