Sometimes when the weight of the world is heavy on your shoulders, a woman just needs some time in her kitchen! I’ve always turned to food and baking as comfort. I love that my husband loves all the goods I bake and I enjoy the midnight snacks and saving money!!!
We’ve been on a two year goal of relying less on big grocers for our necessary needs! One thing we eat all the time is granola and granola bars! Over a few failed attempts I found recipes that I liked and changed them so we’d love them! By making even just the simplest little things I save on average anywhere between $300-600 per year in the dumbest items that take zero time for me to whip up!
Tonight it was Maple Nut Flax Seed Granola and Chocoholic Power Bites.
Besides the obvious of saving money each recipe has benefits too!
Let’s go over the base ingredients…
Rolled oats (use the real stuff not quick cooking oats) !
Good for an immune boost, phosphorus, stabilizing blood sugar, lowering cholesterol, they contain copper magnesium and iron 💪🏻
Maple 🍁 syrup- is a good source of nutrients, including antioxidants, riboflavin, zinc, magnesium, calcium, and potassium. It has a lower glycemic index than honey and fewer calories
🥜 Peanuts - are a rich source of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats that lower bad cholesterol and prevent heart diseases. It also contains arginine, an amino acid and antioxidants that improve blood flow by keeping the inner linings of the arteries safe.
Dark Chocolate 🍫 - Rich in flavonols, a type of antioxidant that can combat cell damage and inflammation in the body, Contains minerals like iron, magnesium, copper, and manganese.
Flax seed - rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and lignans, promoting heart health, aiding digestion, and potentially reducing cancer risk. Its anti-inflammatory properties may benefit overall health, and the high fiber content supports digestive regularity (See Note ⬇️⬇️⬇️)
🛑Side note: flax seed is better for you ground up, so you can access the omega-3 fatty acids. So if you can grind them suckers up in a coffee grinder DO IT. I was lazy tonight and chose not to.🛑
And when you add better choices in such items as homemade vanilla extract and kosher salt or Celtic salt; the benefits just stack up higher!
