I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 ...get 10% off everything on the menu, every day. (But you need to ASK for your discount.)
This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and how some of them start at the young age of 50 .

In case you didn’t already know, here is an article explaining the situation here in California. Not only is this an issue for us - explaining why prices have gone up - but feed prices have almost doubled now too.

!!!!And then we were attacked by nature!!!! Over this winter, we’ve gone from 19 hens, 1 rooster, to 3 older hens that barely lay anymore under perfect conditions - let alone during these ‘crazy weather’ winter months when normal egg productions stops for a few months!

I was going to just fade out of having chickens after this winter’s losses. Now it seems I have to get more hens and better fortify their home and yard against invasion.

Oh, and it takes anywhere from 6-9 months for a layer to finally start, so it’s a huge investment on my part - both money and work wise.

Some supermarkets are not putting eggs on shelves with others selling at a loss due to the high cost of acquiring them, according to industry players.

Something has come and killed all but three of my chickens. Egg production is at a hard stop while Bella, Mama and Latte mourn…RIP to all my babies.

I always check my eggs before I sell them, but this is a great way to make sure yours are still safe, especially if you haven’t used them up within 7-14 days. Always “float” your eggs!
