Why is Sugar Hubbard squash so delicious? Like, seriously, the best squash in the world? Our heirloom variety was created by our Grandpa Ed Sherman and Washington State University for our island ecosystem. After harvest, we don’t rush our squash to ripen. Instead, each one is nestled inside our barn — using the same slow-curing method our family has used for nearly a century. Wanna know more? Sorry, it's a family secret. If we told you, we'd have to kill you. 😂

No shortcuts — just patience, tradition, and care you can taste in every bite. 🌾🎃

Our 2026 squash season is coming to a close, so stock up while you can. Once these barn-cured beauties are gone, they’re gone until next fall.

Today’s lunch is full of local flavor! We are featuring Hubbard squash from Scenic Isle Farm in our Chicken Curry. This beautiful winter squash adds natural sweetness, rich color, and plenty of nutrients to warm us up on a chilly February day.

It’s also perfect timing because February’s Harvest of the Month is Winter Squash! We love celebrating seasonal produce and giving our students the chance to enjoy fresh, locally grown ingredients right here in Coupeville.Thank you to our local farmers for helping us serve meals that are both nourishing and full of community history.

Thank you Nancy. We see you everywhere on the prairie. 💫

Although she lived a long and deeply fulfilling life, we are saddened by the passing of Nancy Nordhoff. The creation of our nonprofit partner Friends of Ebey's , and the inception of the Ebey’s Forever Grant Program were all made possible through Nancy’s extraordinary generosity and vision. And, there is so much more...

In countless ways—both seen and unseen—Nancy played a vital role in forging partnerships that have helped protect the Reserve’s beauty, working landscapes, and historic character. Historic buildings throughout the Reserve will always carry her legacy, a lasting reminder of her commitment to preservation and community. She loved old buildings and taught us that when they disappear so do their stories.

In that same spirit of continuity and stewardship, we also wish to share that we are just days away from releasing the Ebey’s Forever Grant Program 2026 application, and more details will be shared very soon. We know Nancy would be proud to see this tradition of community-supported preservation continue.

Rest well, dear Nancy, we will see you every day in our beloved landscape.

🍂 Thank You for a Wonderful Season! 🍂
Now that November is here, we’re shifting gears into squash season! We'll be tending the fields and getting ready for squash processing. You can swing by the farm stand for whole squash and remaining pumpkins — but the rest of the farm is now closed to visitors as we get to work for the next season. Farmer Prue (the dog) is ready to have her farm back!
We can’t thank you enough for coming out to the farm this fall — it’s been so much fun seeing you roaming the sunflower fields, picking pumpkins in the patch, and making memories across the prairie. 🌻🎃
Thank you for being part of our farm family and for supporting local agriculture, year after year. We'll see you again next fall. 💛
