Forest Cove Acres Family owned cherry orchard and farm

Bad news for UPick. It does not look like we will have fruit enough for a season this year. This will be the first year we have froze to this degree. I think the incredibly mild winter, early warm spring and a few cold nights in April was a recipe for bare branches.
The rainiers may have enough to provide some prepicked bags. Stay tuned!

This is Rio’s page now. He’s so cute.
Oh, and you’ll see here some nice trees that are loaded with… nothing. UPick will be sparse this year, all. The warm early spring with a couple cold days did us in!

We have suddenly and quickly arrived at blossom time. The Rainiers are showing off… three weeks early. It’s been a strange year. The early warmth moved the buds ahead. We did have a few frigid days late in their cycle from dormancy so we will see what shapes out for pickable fruit! Stay tuned.

Found some strange looking gophers while digging post holes.

Stay tuned for the most over-built garden fence you’ve ever seen… Shane has only one level of quality even if I try to tell him it won’t match the skill of the gardener.

Getting the Santinas of the mill creek block all cleaned up. Many times in my life I’ve used the phrase “contract to expand.” I think it’s fitting now, in our efforts to find the right rhythm here at the orchard. I’m hoping our UPick friends will like the updates! Better parking, picnic tables to sit a moment. I’ll post more as it evolves this spring!

We have spent the last two weeks chipping away at this beautiful old barn. Trying to make it more usable. With fresh electricity, we can rewrite the inside, add a tack room, finally clear out the upper loft, and get some activity back in here!

Billy came for Christmas- he’s going to quit coming one of these days… we always put him to work. At least we don’t have him pruning trees for three weeks at a time any more!

We are reworking the barn to put light and outlets throughout- and also to make it a lot safer running electricity in the 21st century… there are still some pretty cool old pieces and parts to find. I told Shane we should hard wire this old timer to an alarm clock in the girls’ hallway.

This cat is a surprise addition to Forest Cove Acres. He was likely dumped at the barn. We never adopt cats and haven’t agreed to a single cat or kitten… ever. But Eddy changed our minds. He came in with quiet authority like he’s lived here his whole life and we couldn’t say no. He is very well loved around here.
Also- scroll if you’d like to see what was going on outside the barn door while Eddy was getting snuggled on the hay.

Sundays outside working are so fulfilling to me. We have been talking about emptying this spot for five years. It may be our maternity ward for a heifer we are getting next month. As we pulled the wood out, we realized it must be walls from the original farm house? The newspaper appears to date back to the early 1900s. $14/acre! The planks are going to find new life in the floor of the barn. Also- Shane informed me that this chicken asked to be picked up… so it journeyed to the garage with him.
