Meet Alanna, General Manager supporting Coventry Public Schools in Rhode Island.

After volunteering with Sodexo during the pandemic to help provide meals to her community, she discovered a passion for school nutrition and never looked back. Today, she’s helping fuel students for success by leading a team that’s dedicated to serving nutritious meals and creating a positive dining experience.

Alanna and her team are preparing for the new school year through training, collaboration, and careful planning.

As we continue celebrating , we’re proud to recognize Alanna and all of our education teams making a difference every day.

Students Take Charge at Hopkins Hill elementary! Two classes of fifth grade students were asked to submit recipes using local produce prior to our taste test. We chose to provide samples of a deconstructed stuffed pepper and a cranberry kale salad. The students really liked both but the deconstructed stuffed peppers was definitely a big hit! One classroom went through an entire pan with some students taking up to seven samples! We hope to add this to our menu next year! Thank you to Cassidee from Farm Fresh RI and RI Farm & Sea to School for helping us out with our taste test! 🌶️🫑🧀🥬🥕👩🏻‍🌾🍴

Last week we had our fourth and final taste test of the year with our culinary friends and Chef Nicole at Coventry High School. We prepared samples of a Tropical Smoothie Bowl for students to try. These culinary students as well as the student who did the sampling have done an amazing job this year and we look forward to continuing this collaboration next year. Since it was the last taste test, I had to bring some gifts for everyone as a thank you and token of my appreciation for everything they accomplished this semester. As you can tell from the photos, they were very excited and grateful! Such a fun and rewarding experience! 🥰👏🏻👩🏻‍🍳🧑🏼‍🍳🍓🍍

Today was Local Day! All of our schools served Saugy Hot Dogs on Calise Rolls along with Roasted Potatoes from Schartner Farm, Apples from Steere Orchard, and Garelick Milk. Our elementary schools also served Buffalo Chicken Salads made with Little Leaf Lettuce. Our secondary schools had a Saugy Bar where they could add lots of assorted toppings to their hot dog including items like chili, cheddar cheese sauce, diced onions, and pepper relish. We also served a Pineapple Cherry Muffin for breakfast from Shri. We are grateful for vendors like Farm Fresh RI and Roch’s Fresh Foods where we can source our local products every month. 🌭🥔🍎🥗
