Women across Myanmar continue to lead in every aspect of the country’s specialty coffee value chain, breaking through norms in a place where men still largely represent the overall workforce. From Nang Pyone and Daw Khin Than who produce coffee on their family farms, to Nang Nge Mu and Nang Hom Swel who keep track of daily coffee cherry deliveries to the village collection depot, to Hnin Hnin Htoo and Htet Htet Mon who sort and separate fresh cherries, to Nang Tin May Oo and Htay Cho who are always there for the weeks-long dry natural processing, to Mya Hnin and Ma Lar Khaing who lead the Pway Na Phar and Oat Twin communities we source, to Moh Moh Win and Zin Maw Lwin who push every day with quality control standards at Indigo Mountain co-op, to Soe Thinzar who leads Shwe Taung Thu co-op as their Sales & QC Director, and Su Su Aung who’s the founder of the women-led Amayar Processing Facility which provides everything including processing, milling, printing & packaging, and export. Altogether women make up 58 percent of the members at Ywangan Amayar, Shwe Taung Thu and Indigo Mountain co-ops. Every day, they accelerate action for building a diverse, equitable and inclusive society in their communities and beyond, and we’re so grateful to be working with them four years strong.
From Myanmar, Happy International Women’s Day!
