While the world is going to crazy town, my sanity (outside of goats and gardens) has been teaching myself to quilt. I don't use patterns, but make s**t up as I go along. These are three of my recent ones. I have 2 more tops done ready to have quilted on a longarm or maybe attempt quilting them mysef, eek (one is a gift), and another that should be done next week. My neighbor and I are going to have a little pop-up quilt sale (and art bags, and purses, and altar cloths, and maybe skirts and curtains and other fabric goodies) as a fundraiser that I'll probably share about at some point. I still have no art space here but a sewing machine hardly takes up any space so that's my new easy creative outlet.

Today wins for biggest egg versus smallest egg. I need to figure out who these two girls are because I get one of the massive bigger than a duck egg chicken eggs about once a week and the miniscule small as a quail egg chicken egg two or three times a week. I'd never had tiny fairy eggs before.

Mama Blueberry decided to hold out a couple of days for Summer Solstice and her second birthday to have her babies early this afternoon. First we had Miss Poppy who needed a finger's worth of assistance to be born, then Mr Chai made a quick appearance. Seconds later Little Miss Heroine shot our like a gorgeous little rocket (she's the cutie with lots of white). Swipe to see mama's ff udder yesterday. Soooo amazing!! Poppy is reserved and Heroine will be retained. Chai will be available at 8 weeks if you need a super milky doe-making future herdsire. (Got Spotted Acres Blueberry Pi and Got Spotted Acres MD O***m) Good photos to come.

Miss Banshee popped out three gorgeous gold babies yesterday evening. I thought they were due on the 23rd but oops, I used a full size gestation calculator, not a mini. I came out and she didn't run to the gate so I knew something was up, hollered for her and she hollered right back. I knew right then she was in labor. 20 minutes later three gold little babies shot out: boy, boy, girl. They're soooo cute and everyone is doing great. (These are Sovereign Creek Banshee and Blue Cactus VR Ghibli babies.)

What are your favorite non-skittish breeds of ducks? These are the most jumpy quackers we've ever had. We have three Cayugas which is a breed we've had before and they weren't so skittish, and two blue Indian Runners (our previous chocolate Runner was also quite skittish). I've been considering Magpies but I believe they're pretty small, and have also thought about Silver Appleyard and Welsh Harlequin. And Duclair. We've had a few of these before but not long enough to really get to know them because one time when I ordered 5 ducklings I was accidentally sent 15. What are the friendliest ducks you've ever had? This is basically the closest my ducks have ever willfully gotten to me. Our old ducks would climb up on my lap or ride my feet when I was walking. I miss that. I'm considering a few geese, too.

This gorgeous girl is big and beautiful and impossible to tell she's pregnant (I should have blood tested her). I've never felt babies in her belly and she doesn't develop an udder until an hour or two before she kids. When she's ready she just plops down and pushes them out quickly and silently. Since she's been my girl, I've never missed a kidding but I've never fully thought she was pregnant either, lol. Technically she was due on Sunday but we'll see. I'm hoping for Bliss babies any minute. This will likely be her last as she's getting up there in years but we'll see. She lives to be a mama. ♡

Three generations: Granny Bliss, Mama Yrsa, and Baby Boy Calcifer (previously named Pugsley -- I decided to go with a Studio Ghibli name after his papa, per my son's request).
Yrsa (Sovereign Creek Yrsa of Pippin Hill MB Belissima and Got Spotted Acres Moonshine) and Calcifer (of Sovereign Creek Yrsa and Blue Cactus VR Ghibli) are available for new pastures. I will be getting photos of Yrsa's gorgeous ff udder this week and do a 12 hour milk test. She's undoubtedly quite a milky mama as Calcifer is huge. At a week and a half old he was already larger than my 5 week old girl at almost 7 lbs. If interested in adding these two beauties from great Spotted Acres and Blue Cactus lines, feel free to reach out. I planned on retaining both of them but due to an unexpected impending major surgery or two, I sadly need to cut the herd down to less than half. Calcifer isn't yet registered due to a major ADGA DNA delay on Ghibli, so I would be open to the buyer choosing a different name for his registration if you're not Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli obsessed like we are. ♡

The babies are super loving the sunshine and being outside today. In order, Wednesday and then brother Pugsley (thank you for their names, Robin!), then Nevermore followed by Hecate. Pugsley and Nevermore are about the same size except for the fact that Nev is a fatty. Pugs isn't even a week old and Nevermore is over a month old. So funny. And Hecate is the most difficult to photograph because she's the most hyper. I can't get over how freaking cute Wednesday's face is and I neeeeed to not keep her even though she's going to be utterly amazing. And I need to not keep Pugs. I keep telling myself this over and over and over. And over again. It's tough!

Yikes! The smaller egg on the right would be classified a large to extra large egg. The one on the left is an absolute monster! Ouch! I've never seen such a huge chicken egg. This is even bigger than our duck eggs.

No egg shortages here.♡(Also it's purple dead nettle and dandelion foraging time -- see them in the background?)

I go crazy for all the new little budding blossoms of spring. I'll probably take a thousand pictures of this peach tree as I do every year (first pic) and at least eight more of the flowering quince (second pic) while I come out of my annual winter hibernation.
