Big Canyon Beef raises high quality cattle on the breaks of the Clearwater River in scenic North Central Idaho. We are a beef quality assurance certified operation. Our calves are born in lower elevations close to the river and then travel to higher elevations as summer progresses. This elevation change to cooler weather in the summer months helps with the stress on the calves and cows. Cows and c

alves graze on grass/alfalfa hay in the winter and thrive in steep rocky grass filled canyons in the spring and summer months.

A little snow has settled in and the gals are lining up for feed! In the winter we use this hay processor to provide better use of our resources. It grinds up the the bale to make the hay more digestible to the cow. The cows manure and any uneaten hay goes back into the soil to feed beneficial microbes and increase water holding capacity.

New pasture day! We rotate the cattle to fresh pastures weekly. This is beneficial to both the pasture and cattle while helping us achieve our number one goal-to be stewards of the land while keeping our cattle healthy and happy.

Our Story

Big Canyon Beef raises high quality cattle on the breaks of the Clearwater River in scenic North Central Idaho. We raise all natural calves and have no added hormones or antibiotics. We are a beef quality assurance certified operation. Occasionally a calf will get sick and require antibiotics. This calf is then shipped to a different location and sold on a separate market to ensure quality and the “natural” endorsement. Calves are born in lower elevations close to the river and then travel to higher elevations as summer progresses. This elevation change to cooler weather in the summer months helps with the stress on the calves and cows. Cows and calves graze on grass/alfalfa hay in the winter and thrive in steep rocky grass filled canyons in the spring and summer months.
