We've had a crazy week here on the farm but just giving a cute calf update. Monday started pretty tough when we found that Leena, our most rotten spoiled bottle baby from 4 years ago, had given birth to a beautiful dun heifer stillborn. She was to term and we have no idea what even went wrong. She is literally like a child to me so that was devastating. Then on Tuesday, the kids had a heifer born. She's so so so cute and she might yellow out. And on Thursday we had what appears to be a silver heifer born. We've had duns that were born this light before too so we'll see.

Dirty Harry doesn't like spacing it out. He likes to handle business 3 at a time 😆. The week of July 4th we had 3 babies born too.

So here are a couple of cuties and I don't even know their names at this point so stay tuned.

On this day 5 years ago, we brought our first highland cows home, The Golden Girls! It's not always rainbows and unicorns but they are fun and a lot easier to handle than our commercial cows (they're kinda wacko).

What started out as Chloe simply saying, "Granna. I really like these cute cows," to us having around 60! Crazy how that happened.

Here is a compilation of some of my favorite pics that I've taken. There may be one or two that my sister took.

A little fluffy butt update... Everett and the newest addition Fiona over at mom's are doing great. And the 3 stooges, Boone, Claire, Deuce here at our house are so cute and up to no good. These cows have gotten a late start this year but the cuteness is in full supply.

Sometimes it's not rainbows and unicorns on a farm. Sometimes it's torrential flooding and an unalive, breech bull calf.

We saw her isolated last night but she didn't appear in labor. This morning she was laboring but it didn't appear her water had broken or anything. Then, she seemed more in distress early this afternoon so we called the vet on out. It literally rained so much in 10 minutes time we almost needed our arm floaties. Of course, that 10 minute span was the time needed to pull the calf after the mama was darted.

Unfortunately like I said the baby didn't make it. Ernest was a tiny little red bull calf. Hopefully his poor mama is gonna be ok. I hope she can go take a nap, she's worked hard.

On this episode of things you can't make up........

First off it's 94° in North Alabama with a heat index of 106°, straight up Satan's armpit out there. Two days ago we had Boone born to a first time mom, Maylin. He's the cute little red one. Today we had Claire born to a first time mom, Bea. She is the cute little yellow one.

Our property is kind of L shaped. The long back field and the short front field. In the front field there's a creek down in the bottom and the shade trees make it fairly tolerable down there. Maylin had Boone bedded down there and she took off to the back field this morning. That would've been fine any other day but Bea apparently calved right beside him. Bea thought she had twins. She was cleaning both but favoring Boone more than her own. She and Boone paired up and left poor little Claire. We thought, we'll just take Boone to his mom & Bea wasn't having that. She was in protection mode over a calf that wasn't hers. Finally got him away and got him to his mom. She was calling and he was calling back but I guess she thought, "No way he's mine because I left mine up front". She is high tailing it to the front while Boone is going to every cow but her. Jason picked him up again and came back to the front. Both pairs are now locked in the front field and maybe the confusion will subside once the hormones calm down. Dumb heifers I swear.

IT'S TOOOOO HOTTTTT FOR THIS, but we do not want to have to bottle feed one so we're trying our best! At least they are cute.

These 2 heifer cuties were born yesterday. The dun is Calla and the white/yellow one is Darla. And I'll post Dirty Harry just because he's looking majestic. Perfect timing for Christmas lists🎄.

This video ended abruptly because he was trying to literally get in my lap!! This is Blaze and he isn't registered. He's UFD and he REALLY doesn't know personal space. PM for details. The other little silver bull that makes an appearance, is also UFD.

Mom asked me to try to get some pics of Kamille the little red one but as soon as I went out there I was instantly getting a facial. She didn't understand what personal space is. She is for UFD and would make a great pet. She is registered. Pm for details.

I'm way behind on posting. I hope everyone has had a great start to the New Year. We have a few new faces on the farm. First up, the new baby, Arlo over at He is adorable. He came on a pretty chilly morning last week but thankfully not the coldest day.

Next up is Stetson. A registered 20 month old silver bull from South Carolina. We've decided to divide the herds up so we'd be able to sell breeding pairs that weren't related. He will be joining with the mostly smaller cows/ heifers, while Harry will go over to join the herd at mom's. With all of this said, we have a proven unregistered silver bull that we need to re-home ASAP. I'll include a picture collage of a few of his babies, and I'll add pictures of Casper after the collage to not confuse him with Stetson. He's gentle and is really throwing beautiful babies.

We've had several babies go to their forever homes within the past few weeks. Hank, pictured here, has found his way to Tennessee and has it made! He's gonna be even more rotten.

3 more will go out within the next week. We love these babies while we have them and love to see other families enjoying them.
