Ultimate stealth mode… ENGAGED!

Sometimes I really wonder what the cows are thinking. In most cases I make up a conversation in my head that I think they are having.

This particular time I said it out loud and sent it to my family and they got a kick out of it. So I figured I might as we share it with you folks also.

This is an AI (artificially inseminated) calf that was born a few days ago. I don’t think Cut’n Bug (the bull) was really digging on it.

He will have to be pulled out of the cow herd this week so that he doesn’t breed one of the mothers when they come back in heat after calving and make a winter baby. He will get his own pasture with a buddy he won’t want to fight with till it is time to go to work again.

Welcome to the world little buddy! 🎉

We have waited 284 days to see this little bu**er!

We artificially bred this momma that Lydia named “Thin Sticks” (who won her class at a show a few years ago) to the current world record widest Tip-to Tip longhorn bull ever named “WT Kid Rock” last summer.
She just gave birth to this bull calf this evening. He is trying to take his first steps!

This was the first of the Kid Rock babies born on our place and he looks like he is going to be a dandy! The other mommas are also looking like they are ready to pop, so the next several days should be very exciting!!! He was the 6th calf of the year, which means we are just getting started. Unlike most beef operations we dont calve during the brutal nasty cold months. We try and time it with the nicer weather and when the grass really begins to grow well. The timing was pretty perfect this year.

The yellowish goo is the amniotic fluid that she is diligently cleaning off. He will be shined up and spic-n-span by morning.

Cant wait to see how this fella develops!! His color should turn a beautiful dark chocolate brindle and he should develop gorgeous speckles and spots all over where he is currently white (actually yellow in this video). Stay tuned!!

We haven’t posted for a while because we have been busy hunting super hard. But I will say this, a real hunter doesn’t go into the wilderness without Lazy AF beef sticks or jerky!!!

It’s going to be interesting to see this young lady’s first calf next spring! She is real close to perfect!

Lydia got a break from w**d eating to help move cows closer to the corral for AI breeding this weekend. These two day old little bu**ers were napping when we started so we just gave them a lift. Lyd didn’t seem to mind the “work”. Don’t mind the mud and w**deating shrapnel on her face!

Take special notice to what the young bulls and steers are grazing on in this video!

It’s an invasive species from Asia called Japanese knotw**d! Terribly hard to eradicate but the cattle find it delicious. You have to love the longhorns very eclectic palate!

More to come on this in the next few videos and posts! Quite interesting! But for now turn your sound up and enjoy the sounds of cattle crunching on this stuff and clicking horns
