Today was a first for us! We tried our hand at colony removal! It is late in the season to do this with winter quickly approaching, but this old farm house is schedule for demolition in the next month. This hive was located in the floor joist between the first and second floors of this house and was 6’ deep. We ended up removing around 14 slabs of comb that measured 24 inches long and 10 inches tall and were able to harvest around 90lbs of their honey, which we will feed back to them. We are grateful we used our honey money this year to purchase The Everything Bee Vac! It made this job easier and it operated flawlessly! This colony was taken to one of our empty hives and will be combined with one of our weaker colonies. This was so fun for us! We got to meet the most friendly goats, a turkey, and some chickens! We were also able to give the home owner a few pounds of honey from this hive! We do not know if this will be regular type of work for us, but are grateful for the amazing experience!
