rted digging up his lawn 5 years ago to plant garlic - no pesticides or fertilizers ever used. Garlic Joe only uses cut grass to mulch his garlic & gardens. now he's grown 9 different varieties but has settled on this variety as his favorite for taste and planting:
MUSIC: ITALIAN VARIETY
Hailed as one of the best varieties for consistent production of 2 1/2 - 3 1/2" white bulbs with a hint of pink on the bulbwrappers. The sweet pungent flavor and very tight, durable heads are Hard-neck with 4-7 large cloves per bulb. It was originally introduced in Canada from Italy by Al Music in the 1980's. Now it is a seasonal favorite. Garlic Joe planted his crop... by himself - by hand... He harvests all of it himself, he digs it up with a pitchfork, lays it out on a trailer and hangs it in the drying shed. 30 days is the proper time to hang cure garlic. The time has come again for another fresh crop! Garlic will arrive to your door straight from the drying shed w/ neck cut about 2" roots & skin on - unwashed. "They can peel the skin off themselves" -straight from yours truely, Joe. Each year he eats some, gives some to his friends, then plants the rest.
