First of all, let me apologize for our extended absence.. the last 6 months have been an absolute whirlwind! The holidays, Jake and I got engaged, finally made a trip to PA, a flock of birds left, a flock of birds came, calving season happened, oh yeah, and we planned a wedding and got married in 4 months! It’s been a little busy 🤣 At any rate, we’re back! And I couldn’t help but share this photo.
Anyone who knows much about the farm knows that our cattle herd has been a bit of a logistical nightmare.. we don’t have a working facility (yet) and the fence we inherited with the farm needs a lot of love and is a work in progress. So, last year we ended up with a few young bulls along with our Hereford herd bull mixed in with our cows, which has made calving season this year very interesting! Some have been the expected red white face, some black, some gray white faced… just a pot luck, and it’s been fun, but still not optimal. We have a lot of goals in mind for our cattle program and, aside from acquiring our pure bred Brahmans, 2021 was kind of a wash.
Spring calving season is just about through here and yesterday we were blessed with this beauty. I know I’m partial, but she’s probably the prettiest calf I’ve ever seen. Her momma, Elvis, is a first calf heifer and very small. She just kind of never grew. We’ve been patiently waiting for her to calf and praying everything went fine. I’m happy to report, both Elvis and her calf are doing great! Thank God!
All of this goes to say I get reminded in a million little ways all the time how Jake and I were meant to be here. This pretty little calf is a product of a situation that a lot of people would have thrown their hands up at, sold all their cattle, and started over when the time and situation were better. We aren’t those people. The Stull Family is made up of two people who have a lifetime of finding silver linings in every cloud and making lemonade from what seems like an endless supply of lemons. Is it easy? Nope! But there’s a reason this little calf was born on our farm, and I never miss a chance to honor God’s handy work.. and sense of humor! So, welcome to the farm, sweet babe! We’re so glad you’re here!
