Duncan and Chauncy had a rough start. It’s so nice to see them so settled together now, waiting peacefully for breakfast in the morning sun. ☀️

Watch 👀 the boys make their way out to the grass field in the early morning. Usually they are waiting at the gate but today they moseyed slowly down the track and into the meadow. They always get a bit of zoomies right when they first go in. 🤭

We’re back to setting up some flavored “tea” for the horses! In our small tubs we have dandelion leaf this week. The girls have already emptied their tub! Maggie and Whisper seem to love it. The boys are not as thrilled about this one. 😆 Maybe they’ll love the next flavor… 👀

Thank you Charisma's Landing LLC for helping us source horse friendly herbs! 🪴

Happy birthday, Lotus! 🥳🥕 We’re so glad he’s here. Lotus is such a sensitive and kind soul who really loves his people. He’s a great herd leader and doesn’t take crap from any of the other boys. 😆

We are starting to tackle THE WEEDS. We are dedicated to not using any harmful chemicals or sprays on our farm unless we have to - we want to protect the wildlife (especially the bees) and the horses!

Here’s an example of how we tackle the dreaded burdock in resting paddocks. 👀

1. W**d whack it to the ground.
2. Pile on the 💩. The horses are a great help with this.
3. Mulch the 💩 with leftover hay chaff (usually containing seeds!) and wait.

We’ve been blessed to see some Timothy and orchard grasses coming into the gaps we mulched last year!

The hardest part about this process is that we can only do so much each day, maybe 2-3 weeds, and do it well. Gotta wait for the horses to fill the muck tubs again 😆. But after a few weeks the progress can really be seen. The goal is always to whack the weeds before they go to seed. 🫡

This beautiful weather really helps make up for the week of rain! 🙌 The tracks have thankfully turned to dust again. It’s so fun to watch the horses move around throughout the day.

🤭 Maggie is not a fan. NOT a fan. You can feel that glare through the fly mask.

This is before we showed her it’s a muzzle, and she can still eat with it on. Bless her heart. ❤️🤣🤪

Everyone is looking so cute on the first sunny morning we’ve had in a week! Whew. It’s been raining nonstop and everyone is funky. We are slowly going back to grazing.

Did you know? 👀

Coat Defense is our FAVORITE product for rain rot, scratches, and all things funky skin. It’s all natural for humans and horses and helps keep the insects away. We’ve been currying their powder version into everyone’s coat that has a bottle provided by the owner. The powder cures the stinky, wet horse smell, too, in addition to leaving the horse soft and dry. 🩷

It’s gorgeous! 🩷 And this is in the middle of a drought. We’ve done so much work on this middle area for the past 2 years.
